extusb extension cord

Geekers,
Have any of you come across an extension cord for extusb? I am looking to setup my TP so when i plug it in to my car it looks half way decent.

Instead of having wires running from my radio/usb port on the radio through the all-in-one that came with the TP to the actual phone, I would rather hide all of that mess in the glove box/dash board and just have the extusb extension cord run from a hidden location, to my phone.

Thanks,
Drizz :thumbleft:

i seriously -hate- that little block hanging off my phone and blocking my stereo in my car.
i would really like such an extension with some sort of low-profile angled plug to boot.

who do we post such a requrest to?

Well, if I am following your request correctly, a simple Google search of "mini usb extension cable" yielded these results.

Here is one for $12.20 on eBay:

i also posted about this kind of cord some time ago...
it didnt seem that anyone had any information regarding it.

the only problem with using a regular usb-type extension cable is it doesnt have the extra pins for audio, etc. that the htc proprietary accessories use. in short, the all-in-one adapter would only be able to pass through charging capabilities. so these mini usb extensions are a dead end...

we will just have to wait for an 11pin version.

I would assume HTC would be the ones to ask; if i am not mistaken they are the "creators" of extusb. I will poke around on their website and see if i can find a way to request such a cord and let you know when I get info.

I Emailed an HTC rep. He told me that HTC doesn't offer a cord like that, but gave me links to 3 mobile accessory sites and basically told me that if they aren't on these sites, i am out of luck.

Any other ideas?

It's angled and everything.

This looks like it would do the trick, 11 pin extusb; just so long as the cord is long enough to reach from behind my dashboard to where i mount my TP in my car. I think 30 inches would be a little too short for my application, but it could work for a compact car. I will have to get out a good ol' piece of yarn and measure.

I wonder if there is a way to mod this and move the microphone closer to the driver's seat...this could be the central hub for a cheap DIY car kit.

Nice find Phreddo!

ive been looking all over for same solution since i have this setup in car as well. only thing i can think of is some sort of adapter from ext usb to something else like regular mini usb since those cables are easily available. only problem is im not sure exactly how every individual cable works and what would translate properly to it if the adapter would work. keep on looking guys. hope a solution gets figured out soon.

that is probably the best bet. i have been having problems getting a microphone to work while the car aux is plugged into the stock all-in-one anyway. having the mic built in sounds promising... i really like that angle, and the cord looks a lot thinner, too.

this may be the answer to everything.

nice find!

Going from extusb to another connector (miniusb for example) will kill the functionality of the 3.5mm out, the extusb headset built into the splitter, TV out (not that its important for the issue at hand anyways), and basically nothing will work other than data transfers and charging. The only solution i can see is an 11-pin extension cord, or something with a really long extusb end like Phreddo found.

Looking in the DIY TV output threads helped me grasp the concept of extusb, try poking around in there if you have more questions about this.
