I was just in 3.5 hours of conference calls with my TP, and had it on the supplied charger the entire time. At the beginning of the calls, I was at 100%. When the calls ended, I was at 5%. During that time, I lost BT connection (at 10%) and eventually the cellular connection (at 1-2%). Eventually, my phone died. All of this while on the charger. That's insane!

search the forums, theres a lot of threads in exsitance talking about this problem. Likely your phone ultimately stopped charging when it reached a certain temperature, and from there your battery was discharged. Also noteworthy is that it has been seen that during heavy use the radios will actually discharge the battery faster than the charger can recharge it.

The thing is if you're using your phone while on your charger, the phone overheats and cuts off the USB charger and stops charging. It's a safety mechanism to prevent your phone from heating up too much. The only way I've gotten around it is to make sure the phone is as cool as possible, through whatever means. As long as the charging icon is on, it should charge faster than it can discharge. My mogul was able to stay on EVDO connection while broadcasting wifi with wmwifirouter for 3-4 hours while staying max charged cause I put it on top of an AC duct.

darkjedi is right so long as you are using the stock charger. most aftermarket chargers output 500 mA, while the stock is designed to output 1A. On an aftermarget charger the phone can discharge faster than recharge.

Yeah, I'm using the stock charger. It must have overheated then. I saw this happen on a Skype call the other day, and read here that overheating could cause the charger to cut off. But I wouldn't think it would happen using the regular phone. Guess I was wrong.

Very true, my friends BB charger barely charges my phone, hahah. My phone was almost dead and I left it on her charger for an hour. When I took it off it was only 20-30%. On my stock charger, if I charged a nearly dead phone for an hour I get like 80%. For some reason on the BB though the battery gauge shoots up to 50-60% for a while, but then discharges very fast and dies as if it only had 20-30% battery. This was on my Mogul.

so... i think this has already been answered. buttt i use a black berry charger and it works just fine with my internet (tethering) and gps running and it charges just fine, in fact I dont even have a problem with overheating.

it all depends on how much current is being used at the time. typicall, when more current is being used, more heat will be generated. as far as your tethering and gps usage, depending on signal strength and how intense the data usage is will determine how much current is used and whether or not the charger can compensate.

all that said, what i'm wondering is, i understand the touch pro is very powerful in terms of processing power. but what the hell makes the radio use so much more juice?? i dont get any better signal than my old phones...

No kidding. I have tried about six different radios in mine & it still sucks.
