pause on usb connect
 

is there a way to set a pause time limit on what the phone does before you select which way you would like it to connect? because say that i used my phone as modem (i have the cab that shows internet sharing option on the usb screen), and i want to use mass storage instead, my pc is already halfway through setting up the drivers for internet sharing when i select mass storage. i would just like it to not do anything until i actually select it.

First question - under <Settings->Connections->USB to PC> do you have the 'Ask about connection type when I connect' option selected?

Second question: Do you have SPB-backup installed?

i have spb backup but i never use it. i use sprite normally. and yes, its set to ask which connection. the screen does pop up, but even before i select anything, the last thing i selected the last time i connected through usb is already starting before i click done. i would just like it to wait until i actually click on something.

I had this exact same problem until I un-installed spb backup. I suspect their 'sync backup with PC' feature has some problems, but I don't know for sure. I was having other problems with it so I uninstalled, and this problem (would always connect the way it was last connected regardless of popup setting) went away as a bonus!

So, especially since you don't use spb backup - uninstall it and see if that helps!
