Is it possible to...

Filter your contacts by category and assign a ringer to the entire filtered list? Would save a lot of work.

Windows lets you assign contacts to categories but not assign ringtones to those cateogies. However I found this free app on XDA that seems to do the trick. I haven't tried it myself.
