Anyone ever defrag their microSD card? - Page 2

To add to what others have said flash drives actually have special programming to balance out the read/write usage of the drive among its different sectors. The result is that the data on the drive is spread throughout making it look like a normal harddrive that needs to be fragmented. Of course as has been said flash memory doesnt have mechanical seek latencies so there is no performance penalty.

Summed up: DO NOT DEFRAG FLASH DRIVES! SD or USB it does harm with no good.

defrag your drive man. when you take the card out unsafely it fragments/corrupts the data. Slowing it down

I disagree 100%.

Cards do not need defragging (ever) & there is a good chance it may never work again if you defrag it.

I agree with you 1000% jmorton, YOU CAN DAMAGE YOUR CARD IF YOU DEFRAG IT.

Heck, some of the defrag programs pop up a warning specifically warning you NOT to use them on a solid state memory card.

Memory cards are not hard drives & it can totally ruin one to defrag it. I actually had this happen to me a long time ago. I ran a defrag on an old small card I had kicking around that I didn't care about once just playing around out of curiousity.

That card never worked again..........

Yeah running a defrag on a card is definitely not a good idea..
