Disable auto-opening / auto-popping up of soft keyboard?

I don't want to completely disable the soft keyboard. All I want to do is disable the auto-opening / auto-popping up of the soft keyboard everytime I tap or select an input field.

Anyone know how to do this?

I cook it into my ROM's but never saw a cab.....

IF this is not the one then atleast you know what to search for.

When I am typing using the soft-keyboard, it often times likes to disappear while I'm typing. As I type quickly, I end up selecting something that was behind the popup keyboard and I get all screwed up.
Will this reg edit stop the keyboard from auto-hiding too?

I don't see ezinput under hklm/software/htc

Do I need to create a new string?

me neither, even after a soft reset.

I just want the SIP keyboard to stop auto-popping whenever I click on an entry field. I still want a functional SIP keyboard I can use if I choose to.

I've looked high and low for registry edit to make this happen but I haven't found anything. Nullkb works but some times I want to use the keyboard in Portrait mode and I have to manually switch it to something else to use it. May as well pop open the keyboard at that point.

I want the best of both :(

are any of you using MightyROM? I am and i only see the /ezsip folder and the word i see is "keyboardS" (not "keyboard"). When i set "keyboards" to 0, it still shows the software kebyoard.

Turn Off Keyboard from Automatically Popping Up

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sip>:
Create or change DWORD > TurnOffAutoDeploy from 0 to 1

I have been using this since the Diamond came out and it works for me.

You have to wait a few minutes before resetting the phone or it wont stick

So when you open up opera and double click in the address bar, the keyboard doesn't pop up? When you are logging into whatever website and you go to type in your username/password, the keyboard doesn't pop up?

tracerit 02-04-2009 06:34 PM

Re: Disable auto-opening / auto-popping up of soft keyboard?

if you go with MightyROM's new 4.9.3 ROM, it won't pop up when in landscape mode with the keyboard out. Not sure what he did, but on 4.9.2 it would pop up when you click on a text box and disappear when you start typing with the physical keyboard, now it won't show up at all as long as the physical keyboard is pulled out! :)

None of the listed solutions worked for me either.

So it looks like some methods work on some ROMs and vice versa.

For those that have tried one of the methods and have the auto-opening keyboard disabled, which method did you use to disable the keyboard and what ROM are you using?

I really want to get this to work. I tried all the reg edits in this thread on a stock ROM Sprint TP.

Did this couple weeks ago and never looked back, it works perfectly on Sprint/stock.

So your keyboard doesn't autodeploy when you click in the address bar of opera or on any text entry field in opera?

Cause I did the exact same thing but the keyboard still pops up on me.

Same here. In "some" situations this Sip key change did help, but not in all situations.

Go into Opera and to a website that requires you to fill in the blank for say a username/password. Does software keyboard pop up when your cursor is in one of those input fields? Most people's software keyboard pops up, even with the key change, until you start typing with the hardware keyboard(when I start typing using the hardware keyboard, the software keyboard does disappear, but no until then).

Is there not a way to disable the soft keyboard auto-opening when tapping the address bar in Opera?

Re: Disable auto-opening / auto-popping up of soft keyboard?

I've look high and low and still haven't found a working solution to keep the soft keyboard from popping up when I'm entering info into a field in opera. Does anyone have any solution that will not permanently disable the soft keyboard but will stop the auto deploy in opera?

Re: Disable auto-opening / auto-popping up of soft keyboard?

Hey all,

Does anyone have an issue with TouchPal covering the text field with the keyboard - making it impossible to see what you are typing in the text field, or where the cursor is, etc?

Thanks,

Matt!

I have been using this since the Diamond came out and it works for me.

Tried on my touch pro and it DOES work on txt messages (open a message, turn on the keyboard, exit the txt, reenter the txt. but this DOES NOT WORK in opera like the other person asked to test.
EDIT: I added these to this thread: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=69185
