Problems browsing internet

I must be doing something wrong, because I can't seem to have an 'enjoyable' experience browsing the web on my touchpro. I end up frustrated every time. I'm using the stock Opera. The speed is not great, but that's not the biggest problem. Usability is my greatest problem.

I have to wait for the page to completely load before I zoom - with either the wheel or a double tap - otherwise the screen gets a mind of its own and zooms in and out as the page finishes loading.

Activating links is hit and miss - mostly miss. I've tried using both my finger and the stylus - with the screen zoomed in and zoomed out but I'd say 95% of the time it takes several taps to get the link to work, and occasionally it won't work at all.

I like it when pages of text format themselves so that I don't need to scroll sideways - but that's another hit or miss luxury. The same page will sometimes reformat, and sometimes not. Sometimes if I am landscape it won't reformat, but if I switch to portrait - it will reformat without even reloading the page. Oh, and sometimes it switches between portrait and landscape all on its own - usually the landscape ends up upside down as I hold it (I have recalibrated the sensor - and don't have the upside down problem with text messages or photos - just Opera). Now, if I actually want to switch between portrait and landscape - well, sometimes it will and sometimes it won't. Teeter works fine, so it's got to be Opera with the problem.

Is there some setting or settings I can use to make this better? I tried opera settings-display-mobile view ..which seems to help on some sites with the zooming but not the links.

thank you!

My stock version of Opera is already 9.5. I will search for the other option you mentioned.

The version on the opera site is 9.5.1. It changes things significantly, but is also unstable and a bit buggy. When you say "speed", do you mean scrolling speed or download speed or what?
