wifi and sprint data connection

When i turn on wifi at the same time as the phone connection, how do i know which one is being used? Can i specify one or is it automatic?
The reason i ask is my wifi is much faster then the sprint connection naturally and i wanna make sure it's using it when possible

Go into the Communication Manager and turn data off when you turn wifi on. Thats what I do.

I'd like to know also. I already do what kyle stated but I wonder if it automatically chooses for you (i.e. Sprint signal over wifi or vis versa).

if wifi is on it uses that for internet but if your data is on it will use it to check your email and what not. (it they are both on)

Not wanting to call anyone out on the table here, but how do you know?

Yeh, me too. I would like to know if you have some expert knowledge on this. I think you are right. It seems to be the case with me that the faster wifi kicks in, but there have been times when the phone tries dialing the #777 when the wifi is on. Do you know why that is?

Is this documented somewhere??

I turn my data off but I will randomly find it has turned itself back on. I'm worried about getting charged a lot from Verizon since I am currently paying per megabyte and weather/email checks will probably add up over the course of a month. There is a setting in connections to change which source the internet comes from for programs that automatically connect. It was set to Verizon Wireless, but I changed it to NETWORK for now. I'm not sure if that changes anything.

I don't know if this is the answer you are looking for, but when i am connected through WIFI, I get a wifi icon at the top of the page. I also get 2 arrows that move back and forth.

That makes sense that the device would default to the wifi when it is on. But about the comment that it uses Sprint for email etc, is that because of some experience you can relate to?

not documented, that I know, but thats what my phone does. assuming they are all the same pros should do the same unless you change the programming.

That is what I noticed. If you try to use something like Sprint TV then it will tell you it wont work with WiFi and you have to turn that off and use the data.

I had a problem with my Treo 700wx. I would turn it on and Internet Explorer would be opened. So I changed the #777 number and it would fix itself. I had to change IE's homepage to nothing. But now I have the Sprint deal thanks to Mr. McGuire and I don't have to worry anymore.

I had both wifi and data connected and it wouldn't connect to Sprint TV. But if I turn wifi off it will. I wonder why it won't work with both enabled at the same time?

Email and everything go through wifi when wifi is on and connected. I can tell you this for a fact because I have about 1 bar of roaming 1x coverage at my house, and email/data is hella slow, but if I turn on wifi email is a lot faster.

That's because it uses the wifi for data, so sprinttv sees you connecting from a non-sprint IP. You have to be using a sprint IP to access sprint tv (so it can see whats on your account, make sure you're paying for it, etc).

Re: wifi and sprint data connection

It's not that hard to tell....

1) With WIFI off browse to www.whatismyip.com.

2) Then turn WIFI on and browse to the same address again. If the IPs are different then it is using the WIFI. You might need to close the browser before step 2.
