wifi and sprint data connection
When i turn on wifi at the same time as the phone connection, how do i know which one is being used? Can i specify one or is it automatic?
The reason i ask is my wifi is much faster then the sprint connection naturally and i wanna make sure it's using it when possible |
Re: wifi and sprint data connection
Go into the Communication Manager and turn data off when you turn wifi on. Thats what I do.

Re: wifi and sprint data connection
I'd like to know also. I already do what kyle stated but I wonder if it automatically chooses for you (i.e. Sprint signal over wifi or vis versa).

Re: wifi and sprint data connection
if wifi is on it uses that for internet but if your data is on it will use it to check your email and what not. (it they are both on)

Yeh, me too. I would like to know if you have some expert knowledge on this. I think you are right. It seems to be the case with me that the faster wifi kicks in, but there have been times when the phone tries dialing the #777 when the wifi is on. Do you know why that is?

Re: wifi and sprint data connection
I turn my data off but I will randomly find it has turned itself back on. I'm worried about getting charged a lot from Verizon since I am currently paying per megabyte and weather/email checks will probably add up over the course of a month. There is a setting in connections to change which source the internet comes from for programs that automatically connect. It was set to Verizon Wireless, but I changed it to NETWORK for now. I'm not sure if that changes anything.

Re: wifi and sprint data connection
I don't know if this is the answer you are looking for, but when i am connected through WIFI, I get a wifi icon at the top of the page. I also get 2 arrows that move back and forth.

not documented, that I know, but thats what my phone does. assuming they are all the same pros should do the same unless you change the programming.

Re: wifi and sprint data connection
just talked to my friend at the sprint store he said, "If the wifi and data are on, the Pro will use the wifi for anything that uses internet. (not including texts, duh)"

I had a problem with my Treo 700wx. I would turn it on and Internet Explorer would be opened. So I changed the #777 number and it would fix itself. I had to change IE's homepage to nothing. But now I have the Sprint deal thanks to Mr. McGuire and I don't have to worry anymore. |

Re: wifi and sprint data connection
It's not that hard to tell....
1) With WIFI off browse to www.whatismyip.com. 2) Then turn WIFI on and browse to the same address again. If the IPs are different then it is using the WIFI. You might need to close the browser before step 2. Richard |
