Sprint will no longer let us use smtp.sprintpcs.com after 12/31/08 to send email
 

I have had the same issues many of you have had with sending and receiving email. THis goes all the way back to my I500.

I can dowload mail using POP3 but I CAN'T send mail.

The workaround has always been to use smtp.sprintpcs.com and use my vision username and password.

I just got off the phone with Sprint. They are sutting down this option tomorrow 12/31/2008!

Everything was working normally until I had to reconfigure a replacement phone I got about a week or so ago. I noticed a few days ago that there were a number of emails in my outbox. I thought maybe I had missed typed something so I doubled checked everything. TO make sure I had my correct vision password I called Spring that is when I found out the bad news.

I emailed my ISP and I hope he can help. Otherwise I might have to route all my outgoing mail through Gmail.

Any thoughts on other SMTP servers to use other than Sprint?

I have Bellsouth (ATT) DSL at my home office but I couldn't get those SMTP settings to work.

You can get a free Exchange account through a couple of different companies online. mail2web is one that comes to mind.

Other than that, your ISP won't be able to help you. ISP's usually restrict SMTP communications through their own servers.

I just use gmail to send and receive from my POP3 - works real slick on outlook on the Pro.

As an alternative solution, you could use Seven, as described in this thread. (You can dowload file in post 10.)
