Stuck on 1xRTT

Hello-
-two nights ago the phone locked up while doing a sprite backup
-the next morning the phone locked up again and would not boot past the sprint animation
-I ended up doing a hard reset and reloading a "good" sprite backup
Now however the phone will not pick up an EVDO signal- it just stays on 1xRTT- I have obviously noticed a degradation in my internet speed and also noticed a drop (significant) in battery life
Any ideas on how to fix this?
