SDHC format error
I just purchased an 8 GB SDHC card (Kingston, class 4) from Meritline for use with my Sprint Touch Pro. I pop the card in, and select the format option when prompted. A few seconds later, an error is returned, saying the card couldn't be formatted. I've tried multiple times, including after a soft reset.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a special way to format SDHC cards, or large cards? |
Re: SDHC format error
It shouldn't need formatting.
Does it not work? |

Re: SDHC format error
It sounds like you have a defective card.
Have you tried using an adapter or hook it up to a computer instead? IIRC, flash memory shouldn't need to be formatted. i've never formatted a card i've gotten. It sounds like an issue I had not too long ago with my 16GB MicroSD card. To make a long story short, I ended up returning it for another one that worked right out of the box, no formatting needed. |
Re: SDHC format error
Sounds defective to me, a new card out of the box definitely should work without being formatted.

Re: SDHC format error
Take it out of the phone, put it in a card reader and see if you can format it using your computer. (fat32)

Re: SDHC format error
Hello, i'm bringing up this thread because through searches this was the only relevant thread i found.
I have a touch pro, and a 4GB PNY card which i have purchased (unsure of class) and nothing happens at all when i push it in. When i go to memory, it states Not Installed, but when i place the card in its adapter, and into my Nikon D60 camera, it works flawlessly. What could be wrong? the phone reads the 1 GB Sandisk car no problem, should i just purchase another card and try my luck? |
Re: SDHC format error - Reformat may fix
Some SDHC cards get frakked up after a while. I recently had a 6 month old 8GB Sandisk class 2 corrupt some files. First symptom was the TP refusing to go into disk drive mode. Second, certain programs that used storage card databases began freezing/dying. Third, the TP wouldn't free up supposedly deleted file's memory space.
While I was able to save about 95% of the files on it, I had to reformat to FAT32 before it was stable again. |
