Movie Playback Choppy on Pro..

Whenever I try to watch a movie (like something from my SD card, not streaming online), the playback is very choppy...the video quality is good but the playback isnt smooth. I used the pocket DivX player because was a divx enocded movie. Any ideas how to fix this?

It's like...the device has so many capabilities, but barely any of them work without a lot of tweaking done on the user end!

So true... I hope there will be a solution soon! I want to be able to watch DVD's at their full quality on my phone. The VGA resolution is so beautiful!

Re: Movie Playback Choppy on Pro..

I posted how I've encoded several shows and anime with great playback but it the post was dismissed as the files were not movies. Try this free program called AlltoAvi. Do not use restrictive mode. Use TCPMP (attached below) for video playback. Try encoding a dvd if it can and use the settings below. Please report back if it worked well.

Note: if using tcpmp you can watch the file as it is being converted on your computer using htc network or something similar.

AlltoAvi settings:

"Keep Aspect Ratio" box must be checked.
Screen size 640xXXX(Just type in 640)
Bi Cubic
Video encoder is XVID
Video bitrate is 400
Audio Bitrate 96
Subtitle is for subtitles lol

TCPMP is set to microdrive mode which I don't know if it helps
Options>Settings>select page>Buffering then check the microdrive box.

Unfortunately I have no dvds to check if this program can even encode them.
Attached Files
File Type: zip TCPMP-0.72RC1-ARM-PPC-recomp-03.CAB.zip (1.09 MB, 24 views) Click for barcode!

i totally agree i posted a similar sentiment in the big graphics issue thread and was dismissed and labeled a "HTC appologist" (of course). I said the same thing, its all about proper encoding for the device and if you do it right then the playback is butter smooth. I too have zero issues with perfectly smooth playback of full movies in tcpmp/coreplayer. But people want something to harp about so they dismiss the logical answer for the common HTC screwed us with drivers routine which will get them nowhere except more gray hair like last time with zero results.

my videos play smoothly as well with core player (encoded with dvd fab or pocket encoder, avg movie file size = 400-500mb). I will say this, if I try playing the same movie with tcpmp, there are occasional hiccups, but still pretty good.
