Email blocking photos?

Hopefully there is a simple solution to this I just can't find. Is there a setting or a way to have the email app in a windows mobile phone automatically download images in an email. I hate the way it blocks them and you have to click the tiny link at the top of the email (twice) and then you have to wait for images to download.

i've been lobbying for someone to look into this since i got my hands on winmo 6... if something this seemingly simple hasnt been hacked yet... maybe it's not so simple?

I would be pretty pumped if someone made it DL the pictures... I don't like to have to wait!

Well on one hand I don't feel as bad that I was just ignorant. On the other this is irritating. This is one of the biggest gripes I have on the Touch Pro compared to the iPhone I was using. Most emails have photos now and it should be my choice if I want them downloaded or not.

It's not just he Touch Pro, though. It's a Windows Mobile thing.

I also used to find this very frustrating. However, I have since been turned around because of how spammers use images:

Spammers use an image server that will report who has viewed the images. Basically when you download/view images in spam the spammer gets a report that your email address is legit.

Outlook for the PC will allow you to then set trusted senders to automatically view images. It is not fool proof since an address can be spoofed but it is a good compromise.

Yeah, it's my phone and should be my choice. Not to sing the praises of the iPhone but I could do it on that device and had no problems and it was great compared to clicking a a tiny link at the top of a message twice just to see it.

Re: Email blocking photos?

Part of the reason for making you manually download images is the bandwidth during the sync as well. Thats why in POutlook, when you set up your account you can only download a max of 20kb of a msg automatically. I know personally, I would like to have an auomaic download, but when I get proofs emailed to me by clients, sometimes the images are 2mb in size. That would clog up my email, and if I got a phone call during that 5 minutes it would take to download, the connection would be broken and I would have to manually download anyways. So while it would be nice to have the option, I understand why wireless carriers and WinMo would say no to that... my 2 cents.

The thing is, though, the should include an option for those that DON'T get 2MB proofs

Yes, and why not allow imgages to download that fall within whatever setting you select as the maximum download limit?

Good idea! It really shouldn't take that much to make a program with these features.

yeah that's my point as well... and with the onboard memory of my diamond and my revA connection, i'm not too worried about how long it takes to download emails with attachments of any reasonable size...
