Re: Noticed that Beam is turned on. Will this cause battery waste?

There is no infrared port on the TP/Diamond. It uses bluetooth to transfer files, etc., to another phone that has bluetooth. When turned on (beaming in your communications settings)(it's on by default), it gives you the option to "beam" that program, contact, etc. to another bluetooth activated phone in the drop down/up menu.

Yes, it will transfer to a PPC 6700 as long as bluetooth is turned on. IR has nothing to do with it.

I have beamed programs and contacts to my dad's diamond(AT&T) this way. MY wife's sanyo 8400, on the other hand, has bluetooth but I had to ADD my TP to her trusted bluetooth list (like adding a BT headset) for her to receive files.

Re: Noticed that Beam is turned on. Will this cause battery waste?

Thanks for the clarification, I just assumed the 'beam' referred only to IR. Much appreciated.

Re: Noticed that Beam is turned on. Will this cause battery waste?

It beams through the bluetooth on the phones When you select the file you are trying to beam it automatically searching as it does when it seaches for anything bluetooth ready. Make sure you have the "Make my device visible" in bluetooth folder. It brings up the person's name if they have it named or the device name and you "Tap To send' No infrar port on Touch Pro

does the beam setting actually use additional power when your BT is turned off? or just when the BT is enabled?

I turn my BT and beam OFF when not using it. When on, it constantly polls for a BT signal that's not there thus draining the batt prematurely.

I'll reword my question.. when you disable the BT in comm manager is the BT completely off or will the beam enabled actually turn it on still?

Re: Noticed that Beam is turned on. Will this cause battery waste?

Is there a way to disable this setting so that when you reboot/restart you don't have to go back and disable it? I would rather just enable it when I need it, but have it off by default.
TIA!

Re: Noticed that Beam is turned on. Will this cause battery waste?

I just reset and the beam settings is still disabled or unchecked. After unchecking the beam setting the first time I have never seen it turn back on after a reset. I assume your talking about the beam setting and not the bluetooth on/off. although my bluetooth is still in the same condition (on) as it was before the reset.

You're right Will. I guess I got confused disabling it so many times trying different ROMs.

There is NO INFRARED PORT ON TP, its done through bluetooth like the way the PS3 remotes work with the PS3
