Over my head! jdignazio, that is a very good thread gave me a lot useful information. I guess people in that thread have tried almost all possible ways. I feel very sad for that. In my FMRadio reverse engineering work I have two puzzles: what is the first parameter in the FM_Create function? How to control volume of the device/why FM_SetVolume doesn't work? they are may related may not. I guess TP FM radio has special mixer/audio line control. whatever I set volume, the system override it. I am looking for the latest version of FMRadio.exe and dlls. If you find those files in a OEM package (not in ROM), maybe works. Maybe in CDMA TP the mixer disabled FM radio line. Check AudioPara3.csv file it has a couple of line with "FM". I guess it is related to initialize audio mixer for FM radio. I don't have CDMA TP so I can't provide further advice. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...497977&page=16 |

http://www.nuerom.com/BlogEngine/pos...-FM-Radio.aspx a little more research shows that for some reason its 0ing the init script on the TP for some stupid reason. I'd like to know why... |

Re: FM Radio Discussion
Okay, well I finally got bored enough to do it. I got curious with this whole FM Radio thing, seeings how the Original Touch Pro was listed with the Specs that it had Built in FM Radio with RDS. However I also noticed that on the american versions, Their specs did not have a radio listed.
Well I got a wild hair up my ***, and decided to grab my tools and take apart my touch Pro, for a side by side comparison with my Touch Diamond. and yep. Sure enough, the Chipset is in the diamond for the FM Radio, but on the touch pro, its Empty. So that is why no matter how we try to change the dll files or registry edits or manual installs of the FM Radio Cab, we will never get it to work. With out the Tuner chip, all the programming in the world is not going to make it work. Its okay, I have a stereo, I guess I dont need one on my phone. |
Re: FM Radio Discussion
Jmy.. Courageous 'Geeker you are.. Please post pictures of side-by-side for comparisons of each.. What model was the Diamond and Touch Pro? Sprint, At&T?
|
Re: FM Radio Discussion
Diamond is a sprint diamond, and Touch Pro is a US Cellular Touch Pro and the pics will be later, cuz I just put em back together and I gotta get dinner done and crap. But when I get a free hour, I will rip em apart again.

Re: FM Radio Discussion
Ok guys. I have once again gained enough steam to, yet again, dig into my Sprint Touch Pro.
BTW: I do know this is old news, but some of us are too poor to get the TP2 yet. Until I get the funds to get a TP2, I'll keep cracking away at the TP. After replacing the drivers with the old versions (from this site) I installed the cab file for the radio (also, on this site). What did I get... nada. Except, it was operating the HW. I know, I know. Old news. Before flaming, please hear me out. With the above in mind, I cracked it open and put a conductive paste across each "missing" passive joint. For example, If a resistor was suppose to be here in the "radio enabled" version, and removed on the current version, the paste will create a loose connection that should enable the radio. Once again, I did this across ALL missing components without discrimination. My results? Well I was able to tune to three local stations (read stations less than a quarter mile away), but still no audio. I did put the output of the phone into a very large amp and heard something promising. I heard the internal amp engage for about ten seconds whenever I tuned, muted, or changed volume. When it was engaged I could just barely make out music and voices. As a reminder, that was through a very large amp! Well folks, I have stretched my little Touch Pro just about as far as I dare. If anyone has any suggestions, questions, or comments; I'll be glad to hear them! Daniel |

So, it appears to be disabled in the hardware Can be enabled with some work but audio is weak - but works... Maybe you need other drivers to up the volume? |
Re: FM Radio Discussion
Could be as simple as the conductive paste wasn't passing the expected votage... Sounds like you need to take a meter those points on a phone whose radio is confirmed to be working and compair to yours...

Re: FM Radio Discussion
sounds like progress bro props to putting the paste on all the open connections could have fried that thing

that's ballsy! i admire your sand. got schematics of the points you conected? i have some electroics experience and i might be willing to go fight club on my TP with a DMM |

Do we have a picture to compare from a cdma diamond?

Re: FM Radio Discussion
Looks like the HTC engineers won this round. Even if the FM chip is in there (which it obviously is), the fact that they left out some of the resistors and left it an open circuit really kills any chance of us reverse engineering this stuff. Even if I go ahead and solder the right resistors onto the chip successfully, how many other people have access to soldering irons and have any idea on how to properly solder resistors onto a microchip. The amount of time, effort and risk of doing this isn't worth the benefit. You may have won this round HTC... but we will win the war :-). BTW I just upgraded my TP2 with Win 6.5 (the official release from HTC/Sprint)... 2 words... Love It :-D

Re: FM Radio Discussion
The one in my TP started working after I bought a walkman with fm radio. I just taped the tp to the walkman and it is working fine! I also got a connector to a big boombox I can carry on my shoulder and walk around like people did in the 90's. Too bad D batteries are hard to find... Oh well I'll keep rocking it until someone puts am radio on the TP then I'm all over that like a duck on a june bug.

But, I'm guessing that there's really no way that we'll be able to hear FM Radio on our CDMA phones? |

Re: FM Radio Discussion
OK, I know its an old thread, but bear with me...
I bought a remaned Sprint TP1. Unlocked it to work on Boost Mobile. Everything (except Sprint TV (but who cares) works great, INCLUDING THE FM RADIO. So on mine it is NOT a hardware issue. However, I wanted something faster, without TF3D so I could use my SPB Menu. Of course I downloaded the wonderful Calkulins v4.2 WWE ROM (insert KUDOS here). Now everything is faster, more responsive, but the FM radio no longer works. I have tried every suggestion on these pages. But the FM application wont find anything. I copied the driver files to \Windows\System32 because i cannot find an OEMDRIVERS directory, and wasn't sure where to create it. Any ideas? |
Re: FM Radio Discussion
FM radio working on CDMA TP? That must be a first.
What rom was it running before you flashed? |
