Google Maps Street View
Does your google maps pan automatically using the phone's accelerometer or do you have to use the hardware keys to get the 360 degree view? I know the G1 shows you the street view automatically when you move your hands around...is there a version of gmaps for the TP that does this?

Re: Google Maps Street View
Unfortunately, that function relies on a built in compass, not an accelerometer. Would be cool...

Re: Google Maps Street View
Damn that sucks, I was hoping the TP would be able to do that as well. Guess I'm stuck to using the hard keys for now.

Re: Google Maps Street View
well that shouldn't be a hard fix...Sprint navigation has some type of compass in the program so i know its possible. I'm sure someone will figure this out. Google could include the compass with google maps but maybe they want that feature to be exclusive to th G1. Someone will get it working i have faith :-)

Re: Google Maps Street View
Navigation apps determine what direction your moving based on the difference between your current GPS position and your last position.
The G1 (and a handful of other phones) actually has an electronic compass built in. It is not just a locked software feature. |
Re: Google Maps Street View
Sprint navigation has a compass? Which feature of Sprint Navi uses this? I have Sprint Nav but didn't know about that at all..

Re: Google Maps Street View
Sprint Navigator relies on GPS position update, I just played with it and it will not update until you move a significant enough distance. It is not using an internal electronic compass if the Touch Pro even has one.

Re: Google Maps Street View
I don't think it could download the data fast enough to be cool with the accelerometer... ;)

Re: Google Maps Street View
I noticed that the "New" version of google maps it downloaded was a java version without gps functionality but WITH street view. I'll keep my old windows mobile native version.
