OS Program Memory: 78.71 MB
RAM Size: 192 MB
OS Program Memory: 78.71 MB Program Memory: 113.39 MB Used: 54.89 MB Free: 58.40 MB Can someone please explain to me where all that RAM is going? 192 is a lot of RAM.. My 6800 only had 64MB total and I had 20+mb free on boot... that's about 40ish mb for operating system and whatever else... so why don't I have 100+ mb free on this thing? Wtf, 192 - 40 = 152! Why isn't that possible here? I guess this "OS Program Memory" is what really irks me.. 78.71 mb of WHAT. WTF IS THAT MEMORY DOING. Any explanation would be greatly appreciated ;) |

Ram = 192 . OS = 78.71 . Programs = 54.89 192 - 78.71 - 54.89 = Free memory 58.40MB Remeber that 6800 didn't come with that much PROGRAMS as the TP does. |

Re: OS Program Memory: 78.71 MB
BEst I could ever get was a perfect inverse of the OP.
78 Megs Free and 54 Megs to OS. It was just an experiment and not a very user friendly ROM. I basically stripped out all the OEMAPPS on a clean VZW stock kitchen then cooked it. Yeah, I know not very realistic but damn. You would be quite amazed how fast this deviuce is without the drivers and apps loading the memorey back. Of course no functionality this way but step by step you coudl putthe drivers back in until you get just the "right match" of functionality vs memory / speed. Wow, nevermind, thats alot of work. |

ohhh i can add just fine... but it still doesn't explain how OS = 78.71 on this device and it's the same operating system my 6800 was that used less than half of that.. Program memory is accounted for but OS memory is not... that's what I don't get how it takes up so much more than the 6800. |

hmm so 64mb dedicated to 3d GPU? 3D?! I'm yet to see the 3D functionality that demands this memory... seems to me there should be a way to reallocate this memory. |
Re: OS Program Memory: 78.71 MB
No, 64MB are dedicated to various hardware functions including, among other things, the second processor core running the radio, SPL, etc. It is not dedicated exclusively to the GPU (although a small portion of it may be, I don't know).
All the recent dual-core, Qualcomm-based HTC's have this shared memory, but until the Diamond they (HTC) were not including it in their total RAM figures. In practice, the GSM Diamond and the Verizon Pro have the same amount of memory as the Vogue. They all have 128MB of accessible RAM and another 32-64MB of shared memory reserved for the radio and other behind-the-scenes operations. It was purely a marketing decision to say that the VZW Pro and the GSM Diamond have 192MB of memory instead of 128. If the Vogue had been marketed similarly, total RAM would have been listed as 160MB (128+32). |
