Alltel and GPS seems to be working
Hello,
I had heard that the only way GPS would work with TP and Alltel was if you bought their navigation package. All I have done is turn location for 911 on and use Google maps and I get a live GPS Signal and navigation. Can any other Alltel TP owner verify this? I did no other changes or subscribe to anything. I am excited because I would have missed GPS. Thanks It did take awhile to get the signal though. |
Re: Alltel and GPS seems to be working
Thanks for the hint. I was not able to get the Alltel version to work with Google maps GPS until I read your post.
Turned "location" on and it's working great without the Alltel nav subscription. Was able to pick up satellites for Google maps simply by placing the phone near a window. By the way, if there is anyone reading this that does not know how to turn "use location on" (I had to do a google search), it is under settings...phone...services...location setting...get settings. (Note that 911 location is available even if location setting is turned off.) Everything I've tried to do on the Alltel version seems to indicate that it is hardware-identical to the sprint version. Hope there are lots of Alltel version users working on more efficient ROMs. |
Re: Alltel and GPS seems to be working
Nope, no luck for me. Its set up the same way and no gps. My old 6800 got it in like 5-10 sec. I wonder if that gps update will work on this phone. just for fun i followed all the steps from that titan update but got to the part about the model adn it didnt know, so I hard reset back to the original and am hoping for a solution.....

Re: Alltel and GPS seems to be working
i have the alltel touch pro
i bought mine on november 23rd right out the box i downloaded google maps and turned location on and google maps connected in b/t 3 and 5 seconds, had 9 sat connections inside my house and i live in bum**** georgia, literally miles from anything, and when i walked down the driveway to the road, it had 10 connections and connected the same speed, so im pretty damn satisfied with the gps on it, im really surprised the alltel version wasn't ****ted like the verizon considering the deal is basically sealed or close enough, but i know they're to act as separate companies until then. but anyway, im just waiting for a way to get fm radio working and the alltel shipped rom so i can start trying custom roms and i will be 100% satisfied with what i paid for it |

Re: Alltel and GPS seems to be working
I just ran mine and it locked right on... With the Vogue you had to do a bunch of stuff to get it to work, with the Pro it's working fine.

Re: Alltel and GPS seems to be working
I have a pro, just got it the 23, and i cannot get the GPS to work, except with the alltel navigation that i get free for the first month. i have the GPS turned on, i've done soft resets, quick GPS updates, stood out in the middle of the parking lot, and still cannot get it to lock onto a single sattilite...anyone got any suggestions?

Re: Alltel and GPS seems to be working
Confirmed here as well. Right out of the box. (I had to turn Location on, but otherwise good to go)
Gets 9-11 sats on Google Maps, even indoors in < 5 seconds. |
