I'm new to ppc and windows mobile -- a few basic questions

I am completely new to Windows Mobile. (I've used a Palm in the past) I've been reading through the forums for the last month and I think I'm getting completely confused. I'm having trouble figuring out exactly how TF3D fits in with Windows Mobile.

Is the WM 'today' screen like a 'home page' or 'xp desktop'? Is TF3D a replacement for that? Would software like 'mobile shell' or 'pocket breeze' be something that would add to TF3D or replace it? Do they even do similar things? Is 'pocket informant' a similar application?

What are 'today plug-ins' and can I use them with TF3D?

Are all of these just 'presentation of information' - or does addtional functionality set them apart?

These are probably basic concepts, I just need to be pointed in the right direction.

Thanks.

Welcome!

Yes, the Today Screen is your home screen. TF3D replaces it. Mobile Shell could add to your overall experience, but PocketBreeze can't run with TF3D.

Today Plugins are things that go on your today screen. TF3D is essentially a huge today plugin, which is why you can't run other ones along side TF3D.

Some today plugins offer additional functionality and ease of info accessibility. What you need depends on what you use your phone for.

Thanks! (fpr the info and the welcome)

I'm gettiing a bit overwhelmed by the number of choices!

For example, I need a better 'to-do list'/project manager than I see so far in WM. I'm not sure if I'm looking for an a 'to-do list program' or an application that includes that function.

And are TF3D and/or mobile shell just ways to view information you've entered in standard WM programs? For example, it seems the 'People' tab is just a way to display or access contacts you have entered in (what I guess is) the standard WM contacts app, which I'm not crazy about. Mobile Shell seems to have a different way to display contacts - but would I still need to use the standard app to enter them? And if its a different app in Mobile Shell, would the favorites tab in TF3D still be able to display them?

I hope my questions are making sense! Thanks for the help.

Yes, TF3D and other apps (like mobile shell) just sit on top of Pocket Outlook and display the information differently.

For to do list, I use ListPro:

Hope that helps.
