I have never, EVER had WinMo crash on me until this phone. Anyone else getting random "Shell32.dll has encountered a problem and needs to close" errors?

Seriously though... need to know what major tweaks or programs have been installed that tamper with TouchFLO and other system files (like the custom EV/1X/Start icons, etc) to diagnose these.

Shell32.dll errors on WinMo phones is almost always the result of a botched or incompatible tweak/customization.

I've gotten this problem but only when I use ringtones from my SD card. I dont see how it is the cause but it is everytime. I just moved the ringtones to the phones memory and it doesnt do it anymore. I don't get it.

Shell32 crashes are generally related to the appearance of the phone resources.

Skinning, so to speak.

It should never happen more than a few times. If it is, there is probably a program or tweak that is screwing with your phone's theme.

uninstall apps. that pertain to above advice till you find the culprit.

It crashed twice the first day I had it before any tweaks. Now, I've gotten one every other day since I got the phone last Tuesday. The weaks I have aren't anything serious. The first time it happened, it was in the camera app. The second time it happened, I was playing with the HTC Music app. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason, but I'll keep watching it.

I can confirm that I get this with no apps loaded with and without VZW customizations. (Don't even ask how many times I've hard reset this phone in the last four days that I know this.)

I can repeat it consistently by trying to change my ring tones at: Settings>Sounds & notifications>notifications

When I press OK to exit, I get the error message, it thanks me for sending the info to MS (whether I send it or not), then it locks the phone.

I'm also getting it intermittently using Opera (both the stock and the mini version).

For the first time yetsreday, I got a "crash loop" I guess you'd say. It would crash, send the report, then crash again. I had to soft reset.

If there are more VZW users with this issue, this is absolutely disappointing.

Perhaps there is a problem with a .wav ringtone?

I don't think so -- I can repeat this consistently with any and all stock ringtones and I haven't installed any other sound files.

Just tried to duplicate it this way to no avail. I'm getting ready to hard reset, pull TF3D and put Mobile Shell on this thing. I'll updated as I encounter more crashes.

Sounds like mdphoenix wasn't able to repeat it. I can tell you though that I had originally posted my shell32 error at xda-developers, and several people have confirmed and repeated it there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452535

Yes, I posted the original problem. But I cannot reliably reproduce the issue.

Been playing with this thing all day, and so far, nothing.
