After a hard reset...

I'm sorry if this is a really basic question, but what's involved in a hard reset?

I know HOW to do it, it's what to do to get my phone back as MY phone again that I don't know.

I got it at Best Buy and the guy there did all the initial setup. What things do I need to know (besides my phone number of course) to enter after the reset? I found my MEID, MDN, and MSID - will that be the information I need? (and what are those numbers anyway?)

I'd feel a whole lot better changing the registry if I knew I could always get back to square one!

Thanks to all of you - I think I would have returned my TP day one if it wasn't for all of you. I know this phone has great potential, and knowing that people are working on exploiting that potential is helping my learning struggles - I know it'll be great in the end.

It's kinda like re-formatting your phone or doing a system restore on a pc. Brings it back to an "out of the box" state. No need to do one unless you are having certain problems or issues with the phone. Your phone will still be programmed to your phone number after a hard reset.

Re: After a hard reset...

I'm hoping I never need to do a hard reset, but I want to try out a lot of the fixes - e.g. the cleanup post - to see if they cleared up some persistent problems I've been having. I wanted to make sure I could 'undo' everything if I still have the same issues. Basically I'm trying to figure out if I have a hardware problem or a software problem.

So the phone was programmed in the store with my number? Is that part just a matter of hooking up the ESN with the phone number? I was thinking there was some secret complicated set of steps you had to take! The guy in Best Buy had a bunch of numbers written down on a pad while he was setting mine up - that's why I thought I needed other information.

Thanks!

Don't know about the others, but on Verizon, you need to dial *228 after a hard reset. That should be all you need to do. The telco's system recognizes your phone's ESN, so it's already set up beyond that.
