TF3D is a poor experiment...
My TP has it's issues. I think all of the phones I have ever owned have their issues. But my main issue with the TP is TF3D. How can anyone think that it is superior to the basic Windows functionality? Because it's pretty?
Breaking it down... It's slow. It's a memory hog... If you click onto an email from TF3D when you have multiple emails to read, closing it doesn't leave you in the mailbox, but brings you back to... TF3D. What good is that? Deleting an SMS from TF3D leaves the sent responses in there, so that you still haven't cleared out the memory you wanted. The "phone" interface is wonky and slow to respond. I am two days away from my window to return this phone closing. I really like it in concept, and damnit, Sprint doesn't have another device worthy right now, but if there were a way to remove that piece of crap software from my phone, I'd jump all over it. Is the 2D version much better? |
Re: TF3D is a poor experiment...
Amen to that...I agree to that 100%....I basically disabled TF3D

Re: TF3D is a poor experiment...
It's very easy to remove TF3d. It's a today item. Go into Settings->Today->Items and uncheck TouchFLO 3D.

Re: TF3D is a poor experiment...
yea, seriously, just take it off. it's not like it's permanent.

Re: TF3D is a poor experiment...
all you have to do is disable tf, why is that so hard? take the phone back and get the instinct. by the time you posted, tf could have been taken off.

Re: TF3D is a poor experiment...
and if disabling it isn't good enough, try a different rom

Re: TF3D is a poor experiment...
I'm not trying to defend TF3D (I just got my Pro in yesterday so I'm still in honeymoon phase), but I don't bother with clicking on individual messages from the tab. I might scan through them on TF3D, but then I'll hit the inbox softkey to actually read my mail.
Or if I do click an individual email, I can always use side swipes to read through adjacent emails. It's fun to use now, but as I'm finding shortcuts around and through it, I'll probably remove it after a while. |
Re: TF3D is a poor experiment...
use the ppc kitchen and dont include it. Or you could just disable it. The phone flies with it disabled.

I don't agree
I come from a generation of Treos: 650 (Palm OS), 700p, 700 wx and 800w and always trying to make it look better and trying to change the Today/Home screen and finally found everything I needed esthetically speaking in the TP. The TF3D plugin is what made me switch to a touch screen phone and I think the TP handles pretty well with it, unfortunately I can't say the same of the Diamond since is slower but the TP is ok, I personally was used to have everything at the tip of my fingers and the transition is been pretty smoothly so I'm happy with my TP and its TF3D and looking forward to experiment with the different themes available on the net.

Re: TF3D is a poor experiment...
Takes a couple of days to get used to the layout of how the opening and closing of various apps affect one another. Once you do, it's all easy and automatic. I have virtually no complaints about TF3D. It's fast for me, covers nearly all of my needs, and matters like this are really a non-issue.
All of that having been said, as noted, it's pretty darn easy to remove TF3D, bringing you back to a standard Windows Mobile phone. |
Re: TF3D is a poor experiment...
All TF3D needs is the ability to be further customized, something to the extent of UltimateLauncher...though I sheepishly admit that I haven't tried any of the tweak programs which are out there due to reading about numerous crashes and such.

Re: TF3D is a poor experiment...
The biggest problem with TF3D is you can't use any home screen plug-ins like the awesome weather panel without using something like second screen.
I use Mobile Shell in my TP although I do think TF3D is kinda cool, so I swap back & forth between the two setups. ~John |
Re: TF3D is a poor experiment...
I like TF3D just fine. Of course, this is my first WinMo device. I used an ancient Sony Clie and talked on a Motorola V60 before getting this.
...so you may dismiss me as an old fuddy-duddy and return your phone. The Instinct is quite nice. My wife and son love theirs. The web browser is nowhere near as nice as Opera mobile. |
Re: TF3D is a poor experiment...
You can shut off the skin on the phone too.
Renamed HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin To HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin_ And reboot |
Re: TF3D is a poor experiment...
Guys,
thanks for the replies. i've had a ton of winmo phones, and the TF3D, while looking amazing was really getting on my nerves for some of the flaws in the way things are laid out. I'm still on the fence overall, especially with the Treo Pro coming to Sprint in January, but I will try this out a few more days and let you guys know. For the guy that suggested the instinct... FU! My only complaint was TF3D, not the phone itself, so keep your dumbass comments to yourself. |

Re: TF3D is a poor experiment...

Re: TF3D is a poor experiment...
No, sorry, I respectfully disagree. I've never posted that much, if you look closely, so I'm not truly a regular. However, his comment was not just telling me to disable it. Anyone suggesting an Instinct to a person who is using a WinMo phone is insulting that person's intelligence.
So, I didn't know TF3D was a today item, now that I know, I can turn it off. Do I need to check a thank you to every person who suggested it? Or just to the first one? Look at it from my perspective. My reaction my have been harsh for a friendly forum, but those comments can be held in check, just as my response should have. So, in the end, I agree that I was in the wrong for making such a strong comeback, but the reasoning for it still stands. |

Not posting is fine, no one wants you to leave. We also don't want others to leave because they think they will not have a warm welcome. I don't know if he was questioning your intelligence or making a joke, I would lean towards joke, he is always wisecracking in the TP forum. Plus he likes the Philly and we all know the Predators are better. Haha. If you must cuss use the **** because I am pretty sure the guys here want family friendly. If you want somewhere to let off steam NSFW may be the place for you. I am glad you can see it in perspective and I am in no way flaming you, and I don't want you to think I would. On topic, I have had a great TF3D experience, it is much better than the 2d if you ask me, I had 2d on my vogue. The experience of TF3D on TP is much better than Diamond, imho. I had the diamond before. |
Re: TF3D is a poor experiment...
I disabled TF3D a while ago and i can live without it. Im using htc home vga right now. I just wish i could customize it :(
