Retractable Sync Cable
Does anyone know where to get a retractable sync cable at a decent price for the Touch Pro? I have a couple of mini USB retractable cables, but they don't allow me to sync or explore the device from the PC.
Thanks! |

Best deal I could locate after a little googling: LINK

Re: Retractable Sync Cable
Any normal micro usb cable should let you charge and sync the Touch Pro fine. The proprietary shape is just to support the video out. I doubt the cable at that site's the proprietary plug and it's expensive for a typical cable.

Re: Retractable Sync Cable
Not so, I've had problems tethering with all of my retractable USB cables. You need ones with three wires (3 conductor) cables, not ones with only two.
I found one at Frys that worked. It was the Belkin 5-Pin Mini-B Retactable USB 2.0 Cable. Part Number F3U138v03-RTC Office Depot or Staples might carry it too. You can see the three wires in the packaging. -Ed |
Re: Retractable Sync Cable
I have 3 mini USB retractable cables, none of them allow me to sync/explore and $14 for a $2 cable seems ridiculous...will look for the Belkin.
Thanks! |
Re: Retractable Sync Cable
Ah, thanks for the clarification. I had a feeling that a microusb isn't just a microusb cable due to the problems you were having, but that makes sense.

Re: Retractable Sync Cable
One of my favorite cables when I had my Titan was the Plug it BeetleSD for mini USB devices.
or Plug it Classic for mini USB devices These are not retractable, but they are very useful. |

This has worked well for me: http://gizmodo.com/377725/brando-cel...osd-reader-too
I was disappointed to find that the card reader in it doesn't support SDHC, but when using the phone's card reader function it's fine. |
Re: Retractable Sync Cable
I didn't believe this was true - that certain mini usb's wouldn't work for syncing, but I just checked with 2 retractables I own.
An insten retractable that I bought from EBAY 2 years ago for $5 works like a charm. An etech retractable I bought fromt the Dollar Tree for a buck, only works for charging. - though I've used it to transfer files from/to other devices. I thought the mini usb spec was standard. |
Re: Retractable Sync Cable
I should add to this thread - that 5 pins is apparently not enough to buy the right mini usb. I bought two more, that unfortunately don't work for me! Fortunately, they only cost me $2.50.
I compared them to the one I have that DOES work for syncing - and as someone else pointed out, that one from Insten, has 3 wires. The non working ones all have 2. Unfortunately, in listings I only see vendors distinguish between 5 and 4 pin. Not about number of wires. So you've got to go with brands and types that people have reported to work. |

Re: Retractable Sync Cable
Got mine at the dollar store. I should have bought a bunch when the store here had them. They disappeared quick. And yes, it syncs no problem.
