Re: Quest to modify the timeout for hardware keyboard.
I'm aware that bumping a thread doesn't automatically fix an issue. I'm bumping simply to let it be known that another user (myself) is also anxiously waiting for a fix.
Just because of your high post count, doesn't mean you're not a noob in my eyes. I've been around for quite awhile now, and only I tend to post in threads where I need information, such as this one. There's a lot more than my simple "bump" post that is an un-insightful post here in this thread. Hope this annoyed you. |
Re: Quest to modify the timeout for hardware keyboard.
it annoyed much more than just one person I can assure you. I will not belittle you or say anything bad, I just ask that you follow the golden rule don't post to others what you would not want posted to yourself. on the big issues (keyboard issue, fm radio, blurry cameras to name a few) especially after a thread buries itself people expect that when they see it some progress has been made. when they click it and just see it is some one posting something like bump, please fix!!!, I have this issue too! these posts already have tons of posts into them so its really unneeded. The issues are known if theres a thread about it that got burried we all know about it but have no solution.

Re: Quest to modify the timeout for hardware keyboard.
Been following this like most and agree it has gotten a little off course...but here is what I've found and hopefully it helps to get back on course. 1st off, most of the posts i've read in this thread are for the LCD Backlight and not the Keyboard Backlight, atleast that is my opinion. I have found some reg entries that are for the Hardware Keyboard...HKLM/Drivers/BuiltIn/(Keylight and Keypad)...Keylight uses the MicroP.dll and I skimmed through it and didn't find anything that seemed to help except for a ref to the coredll.dll, in which I cannot copy or access (maybe because I don't know how or whatever...just get an error)...Keypad uses the keypad.dll, skimmed through it too but did't see anything. Now I quickly looked at both, but of course I could have missed something...but I hope this helps a little anyway.

Re: Quest to modify the timeout for hardware keyboard.
Ok, I want to say sorry for responding to that guy. It took this thread even further off course.
chuckz07 thanks for the recap as to where we are at. It was helpful and the type of thing people are looking for. |
Re: Quest to modify the timeout for hardware keyboard.
Well, keep plugging away experts. I have subscribed to this thread, so let's keep it on topic because I don't feel like reading through a lot of emails saying who hurt who's feelings.

Re: Quest to modify the timeout for hardware keyboard.

Re: Quest to modify the timeout for hardware keyboard.
This thread was started the middle of November, and it is now the middle of March. 41/2 months, and no one has been able to solve this. I vote that we all send HTC and email about this problem. There is strength in numbers.
Here is the HTC support link http://www.htc.com/www/CS_Mail.aspx The Email I just sent reads is follows: There is a major flaw in your CDMA HTC Touch Pro product. The slide-out hardware keyboard back light shuts off in 10 seconds or less (unacceptable in dark environments). I am a part of a large user consortium that is requesting a fix for this major flaw. A cab file that allows the user to set his own hardware keyboard back light time-out is the most desired solution, or a file to replace an existing driver file would be acceptable. The Phone is almost perfect accept for this annoying function. Expect more emails from frustrated users. Please reply so that I may forward your response up to the many forums PPCGeeks,XDA Developers,Sprint Users, Verizon Wireless users,Howard Forums, HTC Wicki and the like. There are many threads about this major problem at many of these sites. You may even want to post a reward for one of the bright developers at these sites to come up with a solution if your technical staff cannot. Please search the forums to view the many, many users that are plagued with this problem. Again, a response is requested. Please copy and paste the body of the message that I sent, and bombard them, with emails. Power to the people |
Re: Quest to modify the timeout for hardware keyboard.
Sorry, research on this was postponed while I was working on my budget app. lol

Re: Quest to modify the timeout for hardware keyboard.
according to some people on this forum, you are a joke for attempting to make HTC change anything for you. Apparently, unless there is a 100% consensus and similar call to action, nothing is worth doing.
hahaha that being said, i'll email them too :P thanks * tried sending email website gave an error. will try again from home. |
Re: Quest to modify the timeout for hardware keyboard.
emailed them 2X

Re: Quest to modify the timeout for hardware keyboard.
emailed back from: Christy [info@htc.com]
"Thank you for your inquiry about the keyboard backlight settings on the device. We understand it is can be frustrating to not have keyboard backlight settings on the device. This is a power saving feature on the device, but the keyboard will light back up when you press another key. As for any updates to change this, it would need to be requested by the carrier. HTC cannot implement any software upgrades without the carrier's approval. We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause you. I hope we have answered your question in detail. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions." http://www.america.htc.com http://www.htcwiki.com[/quote] |
Re: Quest to modify the timeout for hardware keyboard.
so in other words "Call Sprint about this." and when you contact sprint about it, sprint will probably say "This is something only HTC can fix. Call them."

Re: Quest to modify the timeout for hardware keyboard.
I'm not sure why someone would go through decompiling a DLL rather than creating a program to keep alive the keyboard. NueRom's NuePower/Backlight seems to control the KB Backlight timeout fine...
Decompiling a DLL won't exactly give u the original source code, it's usually a very low level structure, and functions which you'll have to reverse engineer first before you can start making some changes... Even if this was simple, you'll still need to study the code, it's not like decompilers restore the comments that was in the original sourcecode. My 2 cents. |

I got the same respons word for word Thank you for your inquiry about the backlight settings on the keyboard. I understand how frustrating it can be to not be able to see the keyboard when attempting to type on your phone. However, we currently do not have a way to change the keyboard backlight settings on the device. I have forwarded your file so that it can be reviewed by our engineers so that in a future build of the CDMA devices, there may be a fix available. I do apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused you. |
Re: Quest to modify the timeout for hardware keyboard.
I just hit the shift key and it lights back up...
Considering the battery life of a standard TP I am happy to let it save as much power as possible because it sure doesn't conserve it in other more important areas... I do believe Nue has a fix in OEM form that will do what you want. Think it maybe included in the PPCKitchen... |
Re: Quest to modify the timeout for hardware keyboard.
Problem SOLVED! CAB file below (need to soft reset after install)
Thanks to no2Chem for getting this puppy working: http://www.nuerom.com/BlogEngine/pos...BLight-11.aspx NOTE: Is not confirmed working on GSM version yet. DO NOT INSTALL on GSM Touch Pro Also, it has an issue with Manila, but I'm sure he'll fix that. It kinda kills the landscape manila. |

ok hard reset a few times not due to this but just messing with a few roms. Anyhow the sliding sounds app that I use does not work at all when this is installed. lol So I get no sounds not a repeat sound. lol I use the HTC cabbed version.
Also was wondering I notice the light pops on with LITTLE movement to keyboard or is it ALWAYS ON? cant really tell |
