Touch Pro don't charge when running GPS softwares

Hi all,

This is my first post, and i would like to say that you guys all rock, I learn so much from every1 here. My problem was the past weekend I made a road trip from NY to Boston, so I used my Touch Pro with Garmin XL installed as a GPS, I left it plugged in so on driving for over 2 hours my phone started beeping say low on battery so I pull over and checked it was plugged in completely so I exit out of the program, and it was charging, but once I launch the program again it didn't charge, any idea or suggestions?

Dunno bout the Touch Pro as I haven't done this yet, but when I had my Touch and I had it plugged in while the GPS was running with Live Search the phone got really hot and stopped charging. I would unplug it and put it by the AC and it would cool off and charge again. For the rest of the trip I could get it to charge by leaving it by an AC vent so that it could keep cool.

Is your phone getting hot when you're doing this? If not then... well I told you a nice story :)

Is this the same reason why it doesnt charge when you are talking on the phone?

Yes this happens to a LOT of Touch Pro's, this problem has been well documented in this forum as well. Many members complain that their phones get too hot when they use them to stream music online, or use the GPS or talk on the phone, the radio gets too hot and therefore the cuts off the battery from charging to prevent it from over heating. Design flaw? Pretty sure it is, but that's the way it is for now, until HTC releases an update to fix this issue which I don't think they are going to do anytime in the near future...

I ran GPS for a whole weekend of driving. I am using a Motorola Car Charger for the V3 that uses mini USB for charging...

I wonder if the HTC chargers use more Amps to charge faster and that creates more heat, creating the problems many people post about, but with regular USB the heat generated from charging is minimized but the charging takes longer? I am just speculating since I have used GPS, talked on the phone and Live searched in my car with no problems while charging.

Maybe the phone in your car is not getting enough air to cool down?

Can you look on your car charger to see the amps it's putting out? On the HTC car charger that I have it's putting out 2A.

Wow, because the HTC home chargers only do 1A. Same with the Touch home chargers as well.

yup that's correct. Almost negates that my phone drains relatively quick during the day, as putting it on the car charger on the way home gets it almost fully charged by the time I get there.

I would be shocked/astonished if your phone charged any quicker on the 2A hook-up. That would mean that HTC screwed up big time, and didn't even supply the correct charger.

DC devices only pull exactly what they need. If our phones can pull more than 1A, then someone should be fired, then publicly humiliated.
