Touch pro is different then Sprint's version!

There is some great information coming from WMExperts.. I posted the link below... It basically outlines all the differences between the Verizon and the Sprint version...

http://www.wmexperts.com/articles/ve...ferent_an.html

To summarize...

  1. It lost 8 keys on the slide-out keyboard..
  2. It has a squared-off body, not smooth edged..
  3. RAM is 192 MB instead of 288 MB
  4. GPS locked

Doesn't surprise me. One of the many reasons why I left Verizon for Sprint. Their network isn't THAT good to make up for all the crap they pull with their phones.

Re: Touch pro is different then Sprint's version!

Oh my god, I feel bad for Verizon users.

They also crippled the AT&T version as well. The top keyboard row is SYMBOLS, and the numbers are set up just like the Tilt, requiring the FN key.

Looks like Sprint is the only ones that did it right (for once).

Wow, normally it's Sprint that's pulling the bs.

Unfortunately is actually is for a lot of people.

It annoys me as much as anybody that vz does this, but I had sprint service free for two years & I would never go back under any circumstance.

Re: Touch pro is different then Sprint's version!

Yeah like John said. The network is just so reliable. I hate how crippled their phones how but hey, what is PPCGeeks for? Lol. It took me forever to try and get a replacment today since the Mogul is still their best phone. I had to call PCD to get them to tell Verizon to give me a replacment. Anyways, that is a shame, but...

You could always get the Sprint version and put it on the Verizon network.

EDIT: Here's a tutorial on how to put the Sprint version on VZ - LINK

I really don't understand what vz gains by doing this??

Do they buy the crippled phones for 1/2 price??

I wonder if Alltel's Touch pro will be crippled...

From the looks of the leaked Alltel pics Ive seen. It dosen't look like they decided to make any major changes. But time will tell.

Re: Touch pro is different then Sprint's version!

You need to understand HTC doesn't just ask the carriers what devices they want. They have a "parts list" that carriers can choose from when ordering a phone. It's like buying a car. They can choose from a variety of options and they all effect the cost to the carrier and to the end user. As a result, and since no carrier knows ahead of time what each other will request, phones vary per carrier. I can't show the "parts list" as I called it, but I have seen it and believe me, before then I thought it was all the same. They really do have a ability to change around parts of the phones they get though.

Only thing Sprint took out was the FM Radio APP and the Front-Facing cam. Has anyone found the FM Radio app yet?

Here's my take:

I'd assume they do this in order to make the phones as stable and dumby proof as possible. Some of the things they cripple don't really make sense, but I think they are trying to keep up their image as this "super fantastic rock solid provider" by crippling phones to avoid complications. This is probably why they take longer than everyone else to adopt new devices. I'd guess they put a lot of time in to "testing" (crippling) new phones before they're released.

That's true, but I think Verizon (over most other carriers) tend to take things out (or not add in this case) "they deem" unecessary to make them as dumby proof as possible. It's actually good business sense really. Most users have never even heard of sites like this, or how to load a custom ROM, or how to edit a registry. Most users will buy the device, and use the stock ROM from day one to the day they get rid of it.

Since Verizon is buying Alltel, does it matter?i

Is it just me or does the Leaked Verizon pics of their pro looks like a device from 3-4 years ago. LOL

Re: Touch pro is different then Sprint's version!

Whats funny is that with the MS live cash back promotion I can buy a Sprint touch pro on ebay with no contract at full retail cheaper than I can buy a Verizon touch pro and extend the year left on my contract another year.

That is exactly what I'll be doing.

Pleeeeaaassse, i've been with Sprint since '99 and in all that time have also tried ATT (way before they were CIngular and back, the worst, GSM in U.S in general) and worked for VZW (remember GTE anyone) as well. For me, Sprint works best. All the places i've been both VZW and Sprint worked best (or i could roam vice-versa). I'll stick with Sprint (and their bad reputation) and their uncrippled phones than the big Red anyday.

Re: Touch pro is different then Sprint's version!

Just a take. C'mon, everyone is different, Big red works much better around here.

Looks like GPS and Accelerometer is left in tact according to their training material. (The Tweeter game is mentioned and the guide said locations can be found via GPS and VZ Nav.)

It seems TouchFlo isn't turned on by default. Could this be a sign of performance issues?

Come on, give me a break. That's just downright silly to say that (& I'm not vz fanboy by any means)

I have used both networks quite extensively & I travel all over the country on business. The place I work for switched 32 phones from Sprint to vz even though it is quite a bit more $ just to get the reliability of the vz network. Our phones are not toys, they are serious business tools & network reliability is out #1 priority.

vz's phone selection & highest in the industry rates annoy me to no end, but there service is so much better than sprint that there is no comparison whatever.

Yeah it's different for everyone. I live/work in the st. louis metro area (two states) and sprint just kills verizon in most places here.

For anyone in a location where sprint is just as good as verizon in coverage, sprint wins hands down. Price and SERO FTW! :)

bedoig 11-13-2008 06:47 PM

Re: Touch pro is different then Sprint's version!

Sprint roams freely on Alltel's and Verizon's networks. Any advantage in coverage that comes with Verizon's network is pas:sed (swear filter) on to Sprint users as well.

akdmksjeanius 11-13-2008 06:49 PM

Re: Touch pro is different then Sprint's version!

I wanna see the sprint compared to AT&T version, because sprint compared to verizon is just silly by how much they crippled it.

Re: Touch pro is different then Sprint's version!

I'll be honest, I was on Verizon with tons of different phones (I'm kind of a phone geek..imagine that!) for 8 years and I switched two years go to Sprint. I've NEVER had an issue with Sprint and I do a ton of travel. I have the unlimited everything plan, my speeds are much faster, and the phone are great.

Thankfully, I never have to call customer service, otherwise, maybe I would feel differently?

I don't know..in my opinion, Sprint is fantastic though for the price.

Baffles 11-13-2008 06:50 PM

Re: Touch pro is different then Sprint's version!

I don't see where Verizon is "so reliable" and Sprint isn't. I've only lost cell service due to a tower outage or whatever once, and what do you know the tower that was down has Verizon and Sprint antennas on it, so my buddy with Verizon was down too.

Re: Touch pro is different then Sprint's version!

Never had a single problem with Verizon.

Never had a single problem with Sprint either. I just hated Verizon with a passion because 1) phones suck. 2) outrageous prices compared to.. SERO. blah blah I know I shouldn't compare, but at the time anyone could get it so I am doing it@

Wow, they are going to really release the keyboard with the arrow between the N and the M and they are going to gimp the RAM to 192. This just made up my mind to find the Sprint phone on eBay.

Re: Touch pro is different then Sprint's version!

VZ network is horrible where I am.
Hardly service for VZ or Sprint. I'm glad I can freely roam on alltel and VZ.
I have to 90% of the times in my area to make a call.
The roam only feature is really necessary for me. Thank god there is a reg hack.

I don't know why you guys think ram is such a big deal. 50 m of free ram with touch flo running is more than plenty to run lots of apps. i think having less ram lets the tiny battery they give you last that much longer. remember its only a phone, it won't drive your car for you

PDAPhoneJunkie 12-20-2008 03:31 AM

Re: Touch pro is different then Sprint's version!

No, the YouTube app requires a lot. It always better to have the most RAM you can get. And the hardware is SO ugly. Gps locked. All the reasons above why using Sprint phone on Verizon is probably bettter.

Re: Touch pro is different then Sprint's version!

I have the Verizon Touch Pro

The keyboard is by far the easiest to type on, the keys are bigger then the other Touch Pro's

I love the looks of the phone, its square like the Diamond and its all piano black which looks great.

I'm running a different rom so the ram and youtube app are no longer an issue for me.

The youtube app runs great on mine with the standard VZ rom.

Re: Touch pro is different then Sprint's version!

My touch pro is fine and as far as youtube, I'm running kinoma. Only issue I can find is the speed of touch flow compared to the "ROMeOS" rom that this guy flashed on him phone shown on youtube. If my phone was that fast, I'd be ok (8GD SD card on amazon $20 after shipping you penny pinchers!). Not to mention, I don't mind VZNav, it has HELLA features that come extra than just navigating...worth my money anyday (I program and create mugen toons, so yes I geek it up, but I'm not THAT damn anal about paying a little cash per month, DAMN!!! lol )
