From the looks of the leaked Alltel pics Ive seen. It dosen't look like they decided to make any major changes. But time will tell.

You need to understand HTC doesn't just ask the carriers what devices they want. They have a "parts list" that carriers can choose from when ordering a phone. It's like buying a car. They can choose from a variety of options and they all effect the cost to the carrier and to the end user. As a result, and since no carrier knows ahead of time what each other will request, phones vary per carrier. I can't show the "parts list" as I called it, but I have seen it and believe me, before then I thought it was all the same. They really do have a ability to change around parts of the phones they get though.

Only thing Sprint took out was the FM Radio APP and the Front-Facing cam. Has anyone found the FM Radio app yet?

Do they buy the crippled phones for 1/2 price??

Here's my take:

I'd assume they do this in order to make the phones as stable and dumby proof as possible. Some of the things they cripple don't really make sense, but I think they are trying to keep up their image as this "super fantastic rock solid provider" by crippling phones to avoid complications. This is probably why they take longer than everyone else to adopt new devices. I'd guess they put a lot of time in to "testing" (crippling) new phones before they're released.

That's true, but I think Verizon (over most other carriers) tend to take things out (or not add in this case) "they deem" unecessary to make them as dumby proof as possible. It's actually good business sense really. Most users have never even heard of sites like this, or how to load a custom ROM, or how to edit a registry. Most users will buy the device, and use the stock ROM from day one to the day they get rid of it.

Whats funny is that with the MS live cash back promotion I can buy a Sprint touch pro on ebay with no contract at full retail cheaper than I can buy a Verizon touch pro and extend the year left on my contract another year.

That is exactly what I'll be doing.
