TP + 16GB *micro*SD + PortableApps = Fast ?
 

Hello All!

I have found several threads asking how to make the TP appear as a USB Flash Drive. I currently need to carry a USB around for work. Is the Sandisk 16GB (only one I have found to date) fast enough to run apps from portableapps.com such as FireFox? My idea here was then I only need to carry my phone : ) I could leave the USB cable (that would also charge the TP) at work and buy another for home.

Thoughts, Suggestions, Comments?

Mine asks me if I want to connect via ActiveSync or as a removable drive every time I plug it in.

I would be impressed if you can get a minisd to work in a micro sd slot :violent2:

but as long as the pc can install the driver to see the phone that shouldn't be a problem. my laptop at work is too locked down to do something like that.

check the usb to pc connection settings and unselect 'activsync'... i am running FF3 portable on the "MICROSD" now and seems to be running smoothly.

its all good, you can edit your first post and change the mini to a micro in the heading if you so choose.

You could get a miniSd or even full SD card in there with a little modding. The cards are the same hookup, pins, etc, just different sizes.

No, why would I? The whole point was to tell the thread starter how to get it to show up as a USB drive.

Also keep in mind that the class of the SD card matters when it comes to speed.

Class 2 = 2 MB/S
Class 4 = 4 MB/S
Class 6 = 6 MB/S

That is something I did not know.

Any ideas on where to get a class 6 16gb micro sd card? I will have to check the sandisk offering. Buy.com has in stock for $75.

Patriot makes Class 6 micros. I dont know if they have a class 6 16Gig but I know they have an 8 and a 4 in that speed. I have a 4 and it is much faster than my sandisk 8gb card.

to answer your orginal question.. yes.. you can use your phone as a mini hd/usb stick.. ive done it before.. and i have used my tp on my desktop to run aplications from.. it will rellay depend on your card for speed.. .. but i have had no problems with protable apps
