Re: Data Connection Help

Here's how you can fix this on your own...

1. Save this file somewhere convenient, like your Desktop or My Documents.
2. Connect your phone to your computer using your USB cable.
3. When ActiveSync pops up, let it do its thing, and then click the "Explore" button on the toolbar.
4. Copy the file (drag and drop usually works best) to the phone.
5. Disconnect the phone from the computer.
6. On the phone, go to Start > Programs > File Explorer.
7. Find the file on your phone (or My Documents or wherever you put it).
8. Tap on the program to run it. This utility will get your MSL code (you'll want to keep a record of this for future use).

Now, here's what to do with the code...

1. Open the phone dialer and dial ##3282# ... this will open the EPST tool.
2. Click Edit.
3. Type in your MSL code from above.
4. Select "Active Profile" in the list.
5. Click Menu, then Edit.
6. Change the value to "1" and click OK.
7. Click OK or Yes as prompted until the phone reboots.
8. Once the phone reboots, go to Start > Settings > System tab and click the Update Profile option.

If that doesn't fix it, you definitely need to take it in to the Sprint store, because something is definitely wrong with the phone's registration.

If the BAFMSL program complains about not having the .NET framework installed, install it using this installer (can follow the instructions above for installing it too).

Or ##3282# gets you directly into the Data settings, or at least that is what I did...

This worked for me as well by setting the profile from 0 to 1.

The hard part was starting 3 chat windows before someone would give me my MSL#.

Thanks to everyone who worked on this fix. Maybe this should be cleaned up and stickied.

Re: Data Connection Help

My data worked last night but this morning it has stopped and my profile is 0. will update the profile once i get my msl code after work.

But what I am wondering is why would my profile change and have any of you had your phone revert back to 0 after changing it.

I just swapped out my phone for a newer build and now have this problem.

regulator207@gmail.com 11-12-2008 10:29 PM

Re: Data Connection Help

I changed the profile to 1 and reset phone. I tried to connect but still nothing. I tried to update the profile as mentioned but it also gives me an error.

I guess something got messed up when I exchanged phones for a newer build because of the earpiece!

any other suggestions?

Re: Data Connection Help

called tech support and they made me setup the connection in some other advanced hidden preferences and it's working now. woop.

any idea what hidden preferences those may have been?
i have the same problem..

Re: Data Connection Help

Guys, it's been confirmed by several techs that I've spoken to over the phone that there is a data provision outage nationwide through the Sprint network. They gave me an ETA of tonight, but from the looks of things right now, it's still down.

eppopipe 11-13-2008 03:53 AM

Re: Data Connection Help

its a provisioning thing then...
not a actual service thing?
cuz my buddy next to me is currently online on his touch (regular)
but i activated my tp today and havnt been able to access.

leetsauce 11-13-2008 04:12 AM

Re: Data Connection Help

Yes it is a provisioning thing.

I fixed it, actually. I feel like such an idiot for not having done this earlier because I actually thought of it the night I got my TP. Instead of wasting time at the Sprint Store and over the phone...

I booted up my old Mogul, went into the ##DATA# menu, and copied over the values to my TP. Some of the values that were in there (Shared Keys) were given to me by the techs over the phone, but the ones they left out (SPI) were apparently just as crucial because once I copied them over, Internet instantly worked.

If you have an older WM phone, try copying over the values in ##DATA# and see if it works for you. It sure worked for me...

eppopipe 11-13-2008 04:36 AM

Re: Data Connection Help

SPI??
i think im lost
i have a mogul and im in the DATA menu in each phone, which values do i need to replace and where the primary/second home agent{s} look like they need to be replaced but cannot...
help pleasE?

leetsauce 11-13-2008 05:00 AM

Re: Data Connection Help

eppopipe: The grayed out values (Home Agents) are unmodifiable. They're not necessary, anyway. Replace ALL the values from the Mogul to the TP.

eppopipe 11-13-2008 05:03 AM

Re: Data Connection Help

as far as i can tell (unless im doing something wrong ](*,)](*,)](*,) )
ive changed all the values and i still get no internet...
i hate to be that guy but yea....

eppopipe 11-13-2008 05:24 AM

Re: Data Connection Help

ooooooooooooook then i just did a hard reset, then tranfered all the values, and viola, internet! thanks!!!!

So i'm assuming these values are specific to your own phone number, or carrier? I don't have an extra phone laying around at work to get the info from...but my buddy here has a T-Mobile Wing, will that work?

I did everything but when I tried to update the profile I got an error code 1012

Re: Data Connection Help

Thanks leetsauce! The support had already walked me through the manual setup, but left out one crucial step "Active Profile" in ##data# and mine was set to 0 changed it to 1. That enabled internet, after soft reset.

I was told by two different reps, that there is a problem with activation right now when changing phones, and it "might" be fixed this afternoon.

I've done everything as well.. (I swapped my phone last night, my 1st touch pro had no problems w/ data)

I'll either get error code 1012 or get a count down timer that resutls in no update found for my phone.

No, you need to get the values from a CDMA phone, preferably one that was active on your account. Your buddy's T-Mobile Wing will not have the values you seek.

If you guys have already manually activated voice/text, and have an older CDMA WM phone lying around, try what I did and copy over the values from ##DATA#.

How are the newer builds? Any difference to the old builds (other than your earpiece which was bad)? Most notably, any difference with screen edge sensitivity?

If you read the thread, you would see that Sprint data provisioning is down right now, so you won't be able to get anything to work until it is back up.

Question: whenever I use the TF3d to look at setting, its the data connection is off. Shouldnt the Data connection always be on in order to receive text, pictures and email?

If you're in an area with poor service, this will tend to happen... it's saying it can't establish a data connection.

Hardware? No clue really... but I would be interested to know. Maybe call Sprint about an Airave? Complain till you get one for free :)

You can try reflashing your radio if you feel up to it, this may increase your reception a little bit (it will definitely increase battery life at the very least). I like the Telus radio, but it seems to have slightly poorer reception. The VZW radio is nice too.

Was there any information on this? I had the issue were my profile was set to 0, so I updated that. now when I try go get online, it says "there are no data sessions active...." so I go to setting> communications, and the data connection is off. Once switched on, it's fine....but over time if I try to get on again, the data connection is switched back off. shouldn't it stay on always, unless switched? if not, is there a way to keep it on?

Re: Data Connection Help

Replacing the "0" value with "1" resolved my issue.
Symptoms included no internet or email sync capability unless connected to my PC via USB.

THANK YOU!
