No word suggest in text messages

I just moved from the Q9c to the Touch Pro today and 1 thing I have found that I don't like is when sending a text message it doesn't have predictive text and suggest common words. Is this normal or am I missing a setting?

Ok so it works now if I use the on screen key board but if I use the slide out key board it still won't suggest anything.
In settings/input/input method/Full qwert/options/T9 settings all boxes are checked.

What am I missing?

With the slide out kb open, click on the keyboard on the screen, hit the abc/t9 so it's on t9 and it should work.

This brought me back to the original way I like it. I had seen this hack and have done several of the others but wasn't sure what it would do so I p***** it by.
