Pro not connecting to active sync

I just got the pro and trying to connect to my pc. No matter which usb port i connect to, it doesnt seem to connect. It gets recognized by pc that it is connected but AS is not able to make connections.

Re: Pro not connecting to active sync

You should try this.. go to Settings, then Connections, then USB to PC, then uncheck "enable advanced network functionality". That worked for me when I had the same problem.

Re: Pro not connecting to active sync

Did you initiate connection with ActiveSync on the phone? Also, did you already install Mobile Device Center from Microsoft?

I always connect via Bluetooth so that I can initiate as I walk in the door and don't have to have the cradle next to the computer. Sure Bluetooth is slower, but it works without errors.

Re: Pro not connecting to active sync

I have searched a bit for you and found just a few people how had that problem, but the discussions did not come up with a solution either.

Though I run a vista, I have noticed some odd behavior at times, too. For instance, it seems to dedicate a certain USB port to a single syncing device.

In your case, it might have just dedicated the USB port to the other phone or device used before. So you might want to try another port.

Another solution is to sync via bluetooth. When my ports act up, that's how I connect. Flawlessly!

What you need for that is either an internal or external Bluetooth receiver. Mine came with a mouse & keyboard. Then you set up a partnership.

It's really easy on the pohne after it's set up: Just activate your bluetooth; open your AS app and choose: Sync via Bluetooth.

I believe you can purchase these bluetooth receivers for pretty cheap. They're just a little dongle. And you can sync your phone fast from almost anywhere in the room.

Re: Pro not connecting to active sync

Man we went over this many times in many threads....what OS are you running? if vista, do you have the latest mobile device center? that isht is fussy but works . You make sure your TP is connecting through active syn NOT storage, you access that setting through TP setting, connection, hit the option to make it ask you what kind of connection each time. If you dont need TP files, connect via storage, lot faster and hassle free, if you do this TP won't see your SD until you disconnect... .... you can try to reboot yout pc/laptop. It does work if you work it man and i am sur eyou will work it.

I was using ZoneAlarm for a firewall. I had to shut it down in order to sync using Activesync

I have found when you have this problem ...disconnect the phone.....close out activesync....and restart your desktop/laptop PC.....reconnect and you should be good to go...it is microsoft after all ](*,)

hbenz2008, the sttings are DEF on active sync, checked that many times

exterminator20, even though i tried a combination of what you just said

im thinking perhaps i have a defective phone, but even still i have already flashed quite a few roms on there so i still would have to sync to relock it to return it AAARRGH!! any other suggestions?

Did your prob started after reflashing? well b4 you deal with the store as last resort, do a hard reset, test it out ,go back to stock and see what happens.
Sorry bout that dude, you at least can move stuff to SD and then again to TP, correct?

Hmmmm....I have had the same problem and the combo of steps I posted have always worked..but I am using the stock rom though, so ?????
the only other simple step I can think of is try plugging the USB sync cable into one of the USB ports on the back of your tower on your desktop PC ..that is if that is what you are using or possibly try system restore to before when you had a connection.....try another USB cable....it seems as though it might be a software or pc problem with active sync....you could also check windows firewall exceptions by going to the control panels->Firewall Setting and check the box to enable the Allow Exceptions feature..also make sure that you have file sharing checked on your PC here is an article I found on microsoft website:

"
The root of the problem is that ActiveSync 4.x switched to an RNDIS TCP/IP connection method, rather than the old, reliable serial USB. Hence, if you're using firewalls or A/V solutions that in any way fiddle with your TCP/IP interface, ActiveSync would fail. Fail here means "no partnership," "could not connect," etc. etc. etc.
There is a method to change BACK to the old USB serial connection. Some phones/PDAs have the USB-to-PC connection icon & you can turn off "advanced network options" (approximate wording) in there. My HTC PPC6700 did NOT have this icon, so I was DOA.
I went to HTC's website, specified my phone & carrier & downloaded "ActiveSyncMode.sa.CAB." I downloaded it using a WiFi connection, direct to my phone. You could also save it to your SD card & launch it from there. It DID NOT LOAD on the first try, although the file launched. I did a soft reset and tried again & it worked. After install, there was an "ActiveSync Mode" icon under Settings. I switched the connection type to USB Serial and ActiveSync is currently humming away, synching up my media files.
So, find the "ActiveSyncMode.sa.CAB" download at your carrier's or your manufacturer's website. Contact their Tech Support if needed. Get it onto your phone via web or storage card. Load it up (soft reset if necessary) and live happily every after.
I found the ActiveSync Mode info on a Windows Mobile developer website -- not easy to find. So, if you have accounts in other forums where this topic is discussed, please repost this entry there. I intend to repost this in a few places, but wider distribution is better. There are lots of people trying hard resets, disabling firewall SW, etc., without getting anywhere"

I hope some of this helps you with your problem.....try not to worry there is always a fix somewhere

Re: Pro not connecting to active sync

another thing to check is That setting, the advanced network functionality unchecked, should remain unchecked. Once you disable the advanced network functionality the first time, you do not have to go there anymore.
Just a side note, If you have changed the the ROMs like you said then it probably did not re-enable that option. you have to go back and disable it.

*there is also a chance that from trying to connect unsuccessfully there may be some of the following processes still running which will also prevent a connection and are responsible for error message "you might need active sync 4.5 or higher"
in this case, just kill "rapimgr.exe", "WCESMGR.exe" and "wcescomm.exe" in taskmgr; then clear port 990 in whatever program is using it, restart Microsoft Activesync and try again

You can still use that se4tting...not sure if it makes any performance differance though. It was probably corrupted when first installed so you can go to device manager on your PC, find that device (by having the setting checked and your phone plugged into the PC) then select that device and uninstall it. Then disconnect and reconnect your phone and it should detect it again and reinstall the driver. Should work the second time.

Re: Pro not connecting to active sync

Friend's Touch Pro experienced the same issue a couple days ago. Took a look at it, tried a few things, nothing worked, and I hate having to uncheck the ActiveSync advanced functionality option on the phone.

Then, took a wild stab:
1 - Attach USB cable from phone to PC.
2 - Fire up Internet Connection sharing on phone, and click connect...
3 - Hit disconnect

This action was able to restore the ActiveSync functionality (without having to uncheck that "advanced functionality" option). As soon as I disconnected the internet connection sharing (even if the internet connection sharing doesn't fully complete the connection on the PC), ActiveSync fired up and detected the phone.

Start -> Programs -> Internet Sharing

Make sure that "USB" is selected in the drop down list, then click the Connect softkey (bottom left). Once you see the status change from Disconnected to anything else, possibly even "Connected," click the left soft key once more to Disconnect.

That's all it took for my friend's Touch Pro.

Re: Pro not connecting to active sync

I don't know if you've fixed this yet or not, but I had a terrible time initially getting this to work too. All of a sudden, my computer would only read the SD card in the phone, not the phone itself. Try removing the SD card and then connect the phone, this solved the problem for me. Then you can reinsert the card and just connect it to the computer and it shouldnt have problems in the future.

another possibility which happened to me is that outlook is corrupted
in outlook go to

> detect repair
then let it run
usually takes a few minutes
good luck

Here is another solution that may apply,

go to active sync, Menu, connection. Make sure it is checked.

This drove me wild for a lil, that phuking biatch setting came unchecked somehow.
