Registry Editor

Hi, newbie question again. I was wondering where I can find a good registry editor for the HTC touch pro. I realized that lots of the tweaks suggested here require one, I'm a newbie so I don't even know how to install this on my phone. Could someone please direct me? Thank you in advance!

Edit: I downloaded the PHMRegEdit.msi file from http://www.phm.lu/downloads/download.aspx?{940B734A-C437-41C7-ADED-2A4418802FD3} but I'm not sure how to install this at all. Is this the best registry editor out there?

Re: Registry Editor

go back and download the .cab file. copy that to your phone and run it from there.

EDIT: choose "Pocket PC 2000,2003 (ARM/PXA)" from the drop-down list

Using a msi file, you need to sync with ActiveSync or WMDC and run the file from your pc.

I prefer Resco Registry myself.

i don't think the PHM msi works on these phones (or maybe it doesn't work with vista). that's why i suggested downloading the cab.

Re: Registry Editor

cab is easier, and you don't have to be plugged in...other than possibly transferring it to the phone

Thanks! I downloaded the cab file from that website. Now do I need to connect my phone to the computer and drag drop this file somewhere on the phone?? Sorry this is the first time I'm doing it. Help please.

yes, copy the file to your phone (doesn't matter where, i usually use the microSD). from your phone, open the file explorer and find the file. click on the file and the installation will begin.

No, but Resco Explorer with Registry Add-on is worth every dime. I've had it on every WM device I've owned. It is a MUST HAVE!

...on the phone, right? if so, open file explorer. click the down arrow in the top left of the screen and choose "My Device." Choose the "Program Files" folder. Find your cab file and click on it.

I use PHM registry editor on my phone when I'm note connected to a PC.

When you are connected to a PC, you should use a program like CeRegEditor to make it easier. Basically, the registry editing software runs on your PC but is editing the actual registry on the phone. CeRegEditor is free and there are other alternatives as well.

Oh ok thanks for that info. Also, is it ok to delete the .cab files after they are installed? I don't see any reason to leave the installation file around and have it accumulate space...please let me know

I loaded the PHM registry editor, but the four primary registry keys appear to be locked and won't let me open them. How do I open these keys?

I would recommend using the newest version of Total Commander. It is simple and straightforward to use plus it incorporates both a registry editor and file explorer!

Re: Registry Editor

I gave CERegEditor a try. It was able to connect with my phone and make a complete registry backup. I can browse all the folders, but it won't let me edit any of the values.

So, is there a way to unlock my registry? I'm a noob. So, please forgive me if it's obvious.

Not sure this will fix it, but give it a try. It changes some security policies in your reg to allow you to install certain apps and modify the registry.

Unzip this to get the cab file and copy it to your phone. Run the cab from your phone and reboot to see if that fixes it.
