Word Completion on Hard Keyboard help

I know there are registry changes to turn on the Old School word completion for the hard keyboard but I like the newer black box interface. In order for Word Completion to work when I am using the hard keyboard I have to open the soft full qwerty press T9 then close it and then it is enabled for my hard keyboard. Anyone know how to make it default to always on T9?
