GPS Enabled Signal Strength Recorder

has anyone written a Cellular Radio Signal Strength recording app that uses the GPS sensor to record location info?

Sorta like building your own coverage map, you know look I found myself, and I'm right here sorta thing?

If not, how would you do it, and would you make it something that you could upload to a forum for folks to contribute their signal-strength tracks to...

Ideas, thought, suggestions, or any feed back is greatly appreciated

I haven't seen anything out there but I don't think it'd be very tough to log RSSI along with GPS lat/long, upload it to a backend DB server and incorporate it into google maps or something. Nice community project idea, especially useful if you don't trust Sprint's coverage maps! I suppose you'd want to keep track if you're roaming or not too.

hadn't thought about that, but yup, would be a neat tool to use to help Sprunt "improve" coverage,

Hell maybe they would write it and brand it, and at some point take a few $$ of your bill for the use of your phone, your battery, etc

or at the very least write it so that any phone could do this, so you could make an apples to apples comparison of phone companies that use the same radio space

you would register at the db, from your phone, I guess to activate it, and the registration would only keep track of a username,

what about security concerns...privacy, etc
