to see if that would help...

Just my .02 cents
I am using an SDHC card, it still sucks.

While it's fun to dump on other consumer electronics geeks in here, you could easily replace that with "look at my phone, look at my phone" and aim it at the majority of TP users.

To contribute to the thread, I would assume that the addition of AF is causing the problem. Not many other camera phones have the ability to focus close up, which the TP goes. That said, if it still lags AFTER you've given it a chance for AF to lock (half press on a regular camera), then that's a different issue.

It really has to be a software problem here. HTC has to know how bad this camera is.
My M1 is still sitting on my desk. It finally ran out of standby power after 9 months of not being on a charger.

The pictures on that phone FAR surpass the Touch, the Diamond, and the Pro.

I can pull up images on my PC from both my M1 and Pro, and the M1 is much clearer when I zoom in. Yes, it's less pixels, but like we have seen in the past, many phone manufacturers like to artificially inflate their megapixel count to look better--through interpolation.

When you actually zoom in on anything, using the HTC album, you notice just how freakin blurry everything is.

I have my eye on the X1 as well. November 28th, it's supposed to be in Best Buy. I might jump ship, considering all the other problems the Pro has.

Re: Horrible Shutter lag

The problem here is not the auto-focus (which is ridiculously-slow as well,) or with the SD card, but with the EXPOSURE time. It's practically a whole second. I need a tripod to take a picture of a statue, practically. You almost need to hold your breath to get a good picture.

I have decided the best way to take a picture of a still object is to push the button, and let it auto-focus AND take the picture as soon as it's done. If you push your finger on the focus button, then all the way in to take the picture, you shake the phone (just a little,) and that can severely impact your pictures.

ROTFL, I'm sure you're exaggerating but I know what you're saying (if it was really one second it would be virtually impossible to use without image stabilization)

yeah yeah, I think it more like 250ms, which is still insanely long.

I think my normal digicam does 1/1000 of a second.

He speaks the truth. I can't stand having the sound on in my dial pad or camera. slows the heck out of the phone.

Yeah the sensors are so small that the ISO performance would be terrible at even modest settings, so apparently they slow the shutter speed as much as possible so the lowest ISO can be used. Now that would be a neat hack, manual camera control.

Re: Horrible Shutter lag

I'm curious about the keys under HKLM/Software/HTC/Camera/Captparam...
there's some separate keys for what looks to be "Burst" and "Sport" modes but of course, there's no mention of them in the apps, and a sport mode would definitely help speed this thing up. That, and who knows what other undocumented keys it may be looking for... I'm gonna try playing around with them, though.

Setting CapKeyDelayTime from 1500 to 0 didn't seem to do anything... the crappy thing is that it does an automatic autofocus between when you hit the button and the shutter snaps, regardless of when it's autofocusing during the preview.
