Tethering on a Mac

Hey Guys,

I used to use USB Modem for Palm to tether my Treo to my MacBook Pro and never incurred any add'l data charges from Sprint. Now they're telling me I need to pay an additional $45 a month for tethering when I already have an unlimited data plan?!?

I just got my Touch Pro and one of the first things I did is try tethering via USB Modem (downloaded demo) and it works great. Can I assume the same thing - that it prevents having to buy Sprint's $45 tethering plan? I thought I read somewhere that with the TP they might be watching a bit more closely and might have enabled some kind of "clue" to know when you're tethering...

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

You should be fine as long as you don't abuse it.

just make sure that you have changed the ForceCellConnection registry key to "Sprint" instead of "Phone as Modem"

Sorry for my ignorance - I'm a newb to the WinMo scene, and a Mac guy as well, so this is all new to me...

Any chance you could provide a quick step-by-step on how to do that exactly?

Thanks so much!

download the file here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...64&postcount=1

unzip it, then copy the .cab file to your phone. open file explorer on your phone and click the file to launch it. this will automatically make the changes to the registry for you.

Has anyone been able to get USB tethering from the Pro to a Mac working?

Yes - Mobile Stream's "USB Modem" app works perfectly. It's $20 but well worth the simplicity...

Awesome, thank you, I used to run that program on my Mogul, and wasn't sure if it worked on the TP or not, I'll give it a shot.

I noticed that this app uses a lot of power, even before it dials up. you'd think that is justs acts as a USB bridge between the radio and the modem, but it seems to be using more poser then Internet Sharing.

I think that maybe if it didn't have the screen while I am online, then it might now drain the batt... When I hit the power button, the screen goes off, then my connection dies.

If anyone has some tweeks, or settings I can do the make it not drian my batt when connected through the USB, I am all open :)
