Opening a new account and cancelling within 30 days

It might not be the most legit way to get the phone but I was planning on opening a new line and then canceling within the first 30 days and then just activating the phone thought my current line.

I went to bestbuy and the girl told me I would have to return the phone first before they canceled the line. Can anyone confirm this? I ended up having to leave but plan to return later today.

Even within the first 30 days? I thought there was no penalty as long as you didn't go over.

they will charge you the whole amount for the phone. Can't be slick like that anymore. they are giving the phone to you at a discount due to you signing a two year contract. Not only will they charge you the 200 cancel fee, they just might charge you the whole amount of the phone. I have seen it happen

call in to retention and complain like hell and they will do something. You might have to call like 10 times but if you show you are really unhappy they will hook you up. I wanted to diamond when it came out and was only in my contract 10 months and I started complaining about my touch. They offered me the diamond at 350. I called back two days later and said that's not good enough and they said ok 250.00.

I then went to best buy and got a touch pro with the 150 discount. Retention made me upgrade eligible when they gave me those offers. I got my touch pro for 250 out the door.

they will not charge $200 for canceling as long as it's in 30 days.but you will pay $579.99 plus tax.just call retentions as previously stated.not bragging but i got an instinct and touch pro for $80 bucks each.

I don't normally do this, but really? Are you serious? Why would you think that you could keep the phone?

I was thinking about opening a new line of contract on my account and was thinking about getting the touch pro at $300 and selling off the phone on ebay for a profit. My lil bro doesnt want the touch pro so he going to be using my old treo 755p on the new line. Do you think I can just swap out and sell the phone?

Re: Opening a new account and cancelling within 30 days

From the back of a Sprint receipt:

We will refund any activation fee you paid and waive your early termination fee only if, within 30 days of activation, you (1)return you complete, undamaged Sprint PCS Phone with the original retailer's proof of purchase; and (2) request that we deactivate your service. In all instances, you are responsible for all charges based on your actual usage (partial monthly service charges, taxes, and Sprint surcharges). All purchases that were originally paid by cash or check will be refunded by check within 15 business days of return. All refunds for merchandise purchased with credit card will be refunded to the same credit card account. Credit card must be present at the time of refund. All equipment and included materials must be returned (accessories, manuals, etc.). You may be charged a restocking fee for missing components (e.g., battery or charger). All returns must be in like new condition (no cracks, scratches, etc.). Sprint has the final decision to whether the items can be returned or exchanged. If equipment is exchanged, it must be completed within 30 days, and the exchange becomes the Final Sale and no further exchanges are permitted. Sprint PCS Prepaid Wireless Cards, Spree cards, and Software products are non-exchangeable and non-refundable. We may use reconditioned phones for warranty exchanges.

Re: Opening a new account and cancelling within 30 days

Why is it that some people think that they can "work the system" to get something for nothing? All it does is make the carriers charge more, and makes legitimate complaints and device issues that much harder to process. When I broke the screen on my Apache, I replaced it myself despite having insurance mainly because I'd gotten the phone on ebay, and collecting on a phone I didn't buy from Sprint just didn't feel right. I also didn't want to reflash it back to stock just to take it in or get a crappy refurb. I suppose I could have "whined" Sprint into upgrading to a Touch or Mogul, but that didn't seem honorable either.

i work at sprint and if you go to best buy you have to return the phone or you will get charged. go to a corprate store add a line and then cancel it will work. but at a corp store its 399.99 so youll pay 450 and then you cancell..but 450 is better then retail..

Well if she bought it at best buy she would pay 749.99. The Touch Pro at full price is cheaper at sprint. Even sprints retail price of 579.99 is cheaper than BB cost.

I did this when the mogul came out. But I convinced the Store manager that I would only sign up for the new line if they gave it to me for the price after rebate because, "I hate rebates and I never get my money. Also that the sprint site says $199, and I mad him believe I didn't read the fine print of $299-$100 rebate)".

The truth was that I knew someone that worked at the store and that month sprint was pushing hard for new accounts so I knew he would take the bait. There was also some silly NFL promotion where the first month of service was free. So I swapped my 6700 with my 6800 on my original account. I then call and canceled my 2nd line (new line with the 6800 purchase). Sprint CS asked if I returned the phone, I said yes. Then my next month bill came in and I had a $45 credit from the first free month covering my first line because the 2nd didn't exist. At that point I figured I had some luck so I sent in the $100 rebate. Sure enough 2 months later I got a $100 check

So $199 + Tax -$45 service credit - $100 rebate. I had done this without signing a 2 year contact and I had only been 1 year into my original contact.

Dishonest maybe.... creative yes.. BTW if you try this it is highly YMMV as its not this easy anymore

like stated before, if you call to cancel the phone on the phone they'll make go either return it to the store or pay full price for the phone. Might check on ebay for it probably cheaper

the only way to do this, and its really really bad for anyone to ethically do this. Is to get the 7$ insurance plan, call the ph in stolen to ONLY the insurance people. Sprint will be notified that your so called stolen ph is still on their network. That means that you will not be able to swap that so called stolen ESN around. However, your so called stolen ph will remain working on your account as long as you NEVER take it off your plan and move it. Lastly, sell your $50 deductible replaced ph.

AGAIN, ITS THE ONLY WAY. AND DONT DO THIS.

WOW indeed...

Guess since the internet hides a person's identity, there is no need for honor or anything that remotely resembles ethics.

If you know someone who works at Sprint, get them to sign you up for the advantage plan. No contracts, therefore no ETF's.

uh problem with your theory, once a phone is reported lost/stolen to insurance Sprint blacklists the ESN. I highly doubt itd still work if they see it on your account and thats called a federal crime since theyll prob notice. they wont miss the ESN being on your account.

Your right about it being illegal. I dont dispute that... But they really dont bump your ph off the network, and they dont follow up... There are laws and policies being broken, but there is also no one at the wheel.

Lastly, you can SuperCID your NV folder, and draw up an $ESN off a less stature, cheaper ph... that is, if you realy are paranoid about the fuzz coming to your door over a duplicate ESN issue.

Eitherway, I am offering answers. I personaly test my theories, but I restore everything back to the correct conditions.

Re: Opening a new account and cancelling within 30 days

well good but its not worth it to most to risk being booted of the network or being sued/prosecuted to save $100 on a phone or go through all that effort with insurance and cloning ESNs

Furthermore, dont share illegal theories here- i doubt the mods or site owners would condone that
