Has anyone figured out how to use the USB cable to use the PAM?
THanks for the replies HTCford |

Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
Yup. Use a regeditor and browse to HKLM/Comm/InternetSharing and delete the only key there (says isext.dll or something), then under HKLM/Comm/InternetSharing/Settings, either change the ForceCellConnect value to say "Sprint" or delete the key completely. :)
edit - Must type faster next time :p |
Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
Is this trackable by Sprint?
|
Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
Its as trackable as it has been in the past on the Mogul/Apache/6700 etc... aka unless your usage is through the roof, you will get away with it just fine. :)

Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
heres something odd, after doing this, i no longer have the ability to hit connect, what do i do now?
Edit* I typo'd sprint in the registry, alls well now... i must say, it looks like they still have rolled out the new rev in my area, im still getting around 400mbs :( |
Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
No quotes around 'sprint'
|
Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
i just used the tethering.zip or maybe it's a cab file posted in the Diamond forum.

Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
^^^^^really no need, just edit ONE reg key and your good to do.
pretty simple but either way. outcome the same. |
Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
Thanks a ton. I should mention that I am saying thanks using PAM since I just went though the above instructions

Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
Mad respek and thanks to the PPC peeps.
I don't post much (as I dont know **** about most of this) but anytime I have a problem, I can get the answers here. Also, found a free easy reg editor. http://www.phm.lu/downloads/download...-2A4418802FD3} Select "Pocket PC 2002,2003 (ARM/PXA)" as it's a cab file that you can install on your devices versus an active sync install. Figured I'd post this - had some difficulty finding a reg editor in the forums (prolly their, but google worked just as easy.) Thanks again! |
Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
This was a LOT easier than having to go through all the steps on the Mogul to use the Wireless Modem utility. Awesome program, but tedious as hell! :)

Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
I'll have to try this when I get home, thank you.

Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
just got it to work. Thanks all!

Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
So what's this do? You just plug it into the usb port on your laptop and suddenly you can connect to the internet? What sort of transfer rates does the edvo network give with full bars?

Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
Any side-effects of doing this? I use WiFi Router but this is so simply I might just set it up as an alternate method.
@ Chronster: It depends on your location, cell tower and all of the other normal internet variables. With WiFi Router in Vegas, using http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ to the LA server, I get 1112 kb DL and 308 kb UL. Richard |

Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
If you enter "wifi" instead of sprint, will it use the wifi connection?

As to the original question, I have not seen anything before on how to share your wifi connection via Bluetooth or USB. So unless there is a regedit that I'm not aware of I believe your answer is no. |
Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
can you hook your phone up and then play css or something or is the connection not like that?

Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
This works GREAT, but it makes my phone so warm! I left the keyboard out and that seemed to cool it off slightly. The connection is faster than my comcast land line connection LOL.
I was playing left 4 dead with it for about 30 minutes, then I watched a porno and then I looked at ytmnd for about an hour. |
Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
2 Attachment(s)
Does anyone have these settings figured out for the Verizon TP? The registry settings don't match at all with the Sprint ones. It appears that several keys are missing. I took screenshots of the reg entries on my phone to illustrate.. Any chance one of you could do the same from a working modded Sprint TP?

Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
I just got my relacement and I am trying to get back to where I was when all my buttons stopped working. I am trying to delte the value isext.dll under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / Comm/ Internet Sharing But I keep getting an error "Write Error" Cannot detele value! Try Again! (BTW that is really how they spelled delete in the error message.)
Any thoughts? |
Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable

Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
OK Thanks rayswiz I needed to UNLOCK the registry as his instructions said. Once I UNLOCKED the registry I was good to go.
1.) Install CeRegistryEditor on your PC. 2.) Connect your ppc to your computer and allow active sync to connect. 3.) Opened CeRegistryEditor, click on connection and then click on connect. Once connected, go to tools and click on unlock registry. |
Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
I flashed "yay 4 juggs" rom onto my phone. Now when I connect the USB to the PC, instead of two options to Activesync or to "Disk Drive", I now have a third option "Internet Sharing". I just select the third and on the new page I select "connect". In just a minute I'm connected. I'm on the Sprint TP. I also have the PdaNet program, which I purchased, which also pops up when the phone is connected. My Laptop sees it as one of the ISP options.

Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
Discipler,
You said "I'm on the Sprint TP. I also have the PdaNet program, which I purchased, which also pops up when the phone is connected. My Laptop sees it as one of the ISP options." Is there any advantage to using PdaNet over Internet Sharing? I have a license I could upgrade from my apache if it is a better option to Internet Sharing with the registry tweak. |
Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
Maybe I am old fashioned, or maybe just not adventurous enough (heck, I haven't changed the registry at all, and I pay the regular/full fee to Sprint to use the phone as a modem), but I tether with a usb cable, go to internet sharing, click on connect, and usually find that within 20 or 30 seconds I am online.
However, my connection is often hinky, and the service is painfully slow. I mean painfully, as in Mr. T. in 1983 on the A-Team saying "PAINFULLY!" slow. Is there anyone out here who uses the standard phone as modem service, with a usb cable, who has any ideas of tweaks to make, either on the TP, or on the computer itself, to speed things up? Many thanks for your kind assistance. Best, Ito |
Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
i accidently deleted the internet shareing app from my htc touch pro, does any one have it or can give it to me so i can put it back on. im very sorry it was a stupid mistake of mine, i wasnt paying attention to what it was at the time.

Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
I still get the same 67 password error. Used the ICS WModem fix, tethering fix and edited the registry as stated above to no avail. This isn't huge for me as I have WMWiFiRouter and use it wirelessly, just wanted to get it to work. Pain in the ass. Oh, this is form my TP2

Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
use the cab below, it will show in programs as internet sharing. click it and select usb, then hit connect, then plug device into pc. you get a connection in 15 seconds or less. it says diamond fix, but works on tp, don't have tp2, but have many tp2 cabs that work on tp and diamond cabs that work on tp. they ar all same device as far as programs go for most part.

Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
i was using internet sharing with Schwartz Tethering Fix and it worked great. then i applied the WMWiFi Router and that worked good for a 21 day trial. When the trial ended was no longer able to use ISC. I can not reload the Schwartz fix because i cannot remove the old version. I have the cab loaded on the phone but the first install is overriding and new install. Is there any way i can remove the internet sharing cab installed by the Tethering Fix?

Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
Press start, settings, system, scroll down to remove programs and remove wmwifi.

Re: Using the Phone As Modem with the USB cable
Not quite. I have an Acer w/XP pro. No Comm section in the reg under Local_Machine.
