Re: Touch Pro Battery life!!! Post your reviews!!

For the naysayers, who want to insist that there are no issues with the HTC implementation of the Qualcomm chipsets, and Diamond/Touch Pro battery life/heat issues. I've been looking at OTHER manufacturers' phones running the same chipsets, and what I found is quite interesting!

The closest NON-HTC phone that I found so far is the LG Incite which runs the MSM7200 Chipset (same as used on the GSM TP and Diamond) I have not been able to find ANY reported issues with heat and Battery life! In addition, here is what several reviews have said:

http://www.mobiletechreview.com/phones/LG-Incite.htm

Quote:
The LG Incite has a 1300 mAh Lithium Ion battery that's user replaceable. Battery life for a Windows Mobile 3G phone with a fast CPU is quite good. The Incite lasted us 2 days with moderate to heavy use. Streaming CV or YouTube drains the battery more quickly, as does WiFi, but even with 30 minutes of streaming video over WiFi, the phone lasted 2 days.

AT&T claims the large batter will get up to 8.7 hours, and we're inclined to believe, if you leave Wi-Fi turned off. We charged the Incite once before two straight days of testing and it was still going strong at the end. That boxy design is good for something after all.
LG also uses the MSM7500 Chipset on many of their VCAST flip phones for Verizon. Unfortunatly they don't publicize the clock frequencies, BUT I did not see any reported heating Issues, AND they have 3-4 day battery lives.

Now, IF LG can get the performance listed out of their implementation, why cant HTC? Overall I have been very pleased with the Touch Pro, However, I (as many other here) would just like to see the heat and power issues resolved. I would like to get more than 8 hours out of a charge, If LG can do it SURELY an industry leader like HTC can.

The application of course does not allow drawing in the last 1/16".

Same test on my 6700, the line actually does stop a lot closer to 1/2" away because of the raised border of the screen. I think you are babying it if you get it closer because the thumb simply cannot approach that closely to the edge of the screen of a recessed-screen device.
Obviously, with a trim around the screen you cannot do this. I am holding my Touch in my hand right now, and simply gliding my thumb, with normal touch-flow pressure, from the middle, to the side of the phone, the line is drawn all the way to the side. I am holding my thumb completely flat--as if I am using S2U2. That's how the screen SHOULD work, but again, HTC screwed up on that. I wouldn't care so much, if the on-screen keyboard wasn't rendered useless by this.

Also, the Xperia X1 is known to last several days on a single charge as well... with tons of 3G data usage, some WIFI, and a few hours of phone calls.

Someone show me a Pro that does that... HTC needs to fix this.

Re: Touch Pro Battery life!!! Post your reviews!!

I've been looking up various battery reviews and tweaks and i've run across several people claiming that active sync is the true culprit! (ive heard that up to 35% of our drain is from ASync simply running in the background )

I read up on how to disable active sync and now that ive got it completely off, it seems as if my battery life is better... but i cant tell by much. Took the phone off charger at 8:30 am, light surfing and mp3 usage and right now im at 90%, or 9ticks in the power settings menu.

I think this just might be the fix we needed guys! BUT, im still holding off. By the end of most days my battery is fully drained so if it can last me than im confident in this as a solution.

----

I forgot to post the async disable instruction.

GO into active sync and configure a server... for every box i simply entered "fake"... that is "fake@fake.com" and the passwords and user names were all "fake", basically, any name as it doesnt matter. I set it to sync with nothing (neither contacts or anything else). FInally, go into the settings menu and set sync during to manually on both options and uncheck the send/receive option. Close active sync and from now on, it should not open itself

meh, the phone should last 1-2 days WITH ActiveSync (actually used.) Reading all over the net, it's apparent that the Pro just doesn't make the cut, in the battery department. I'm surprised, however, that simply closing AS gives you so much more battery...seeing how it's not connecting to anything... color me confused.

It wouldnt surprise me if async is the/an issue resulting in lower batterylife. Think about it, it is constantly running. It's running for a reason and its using resources constantly too... the thing that makes me wonder is what is it doing? Why does it need to run so much?

Im not sure what its doing in the background, but it has to be important if the system launches it automatically, and important usually means theres some kind of cpu priority..

---

And once again, i havent had this tweak on for an entire day yet so this just might be a placebo right now.

I'm not trying to down-play your solution, but every other Windows Mobile phone has ActiveSync running as well. Nothing has changed from one phone to the next, except HTC's radio software or hardware design flaw, to cause such power drain.

If ActiveSync is not OPENING a data connection, I don't see it draining much of the battery. We have already covered that the CPU really doesn't drain much. It's the radio that does the sucking, (so to speak.)

I’ve had my TP last two days without a charge. By time I decided to charge it, there are two ticks left on the battery bar display.

With what kind of usage?

I know that other phones, like the GSM Omnia, and GSM X1i can last 2-3 days with hundreds of texts, few hours of calls, and some 3G internet usage.

I find my CDMA WM phones are lucky to see 24 hours with no calls, and only receiving a half-dozen texts. Just having the radio on, seems to drain these phones. Turning off the radio, my Touch lasts over 5 days.

Re: Touch Pro Battery life!!! Post your reviews!!

Mine has been off the charger about 8 hours..been using it heavy this morning including GPS, text messaging, web surfing, etc..

I am at 76% battery...I have no problems with the battery...I could probably go 2 full days without charging it.
