Re: rev B?
Well it doesn't look too good for WiMax right now...
LTE just p***** testing at 170Mbps down/50Mbps up today in a car moving at 43mph... |

Re: rev B?
Sprint is rolling out what is known as WiMax Wave 1 right NOW. Baltimore goes live THIS MONTH!
LTE won't go live for another 3-4 years and by then, WiMax wave 2 will be rolling out. Sprint wants to bring a highspeed wireless network out now instead of 3-4 years from now. Sprint thinks that a wireless citywide real world connection speed of 2-4 mbps will draw people in and they're right. LTE may be faster, but it's also 3-4 years away. Maximum speed of WiMax wave 1 is 70 mbps. WiMax and LTE also use very similar technologies. |
Re: rev B?
The simple answer to sprint rolling out wimax, is as the poster above said, they want it now. LTE will be a while. Sprint has a WiMax network literally going live now, I have a friend with equipment that will be able to use it sitting there waiting for sprint to give them the green light for testing.

Re: rev B?
The have started testing in Dallas, Baltimore, DC and one other place that i cant remember of the top of my head. I have a friend that works on the equipment testing and I also get contracted out to all company to test the network.

Re: rev B?
170mps is awesome and all, but i dont see the real world application of speeds that fast (unless your trying to transfer a data base on the go). But still, these concepts arent made to solve the problems of today.
If the 10% rule is still in effect, thats about 17 megabytes being downloaded per second, an mp3 would transfer in less than a 1/4 second, a full cd in four seconds, a dvd in under 40 seconds, it wouldnt take long transfering the contents of one hardrive to the next, maybe just over night i think data has been compressed to the point that any speed exceeding this is just not practical |
