GPS, Sprint TV, Visual Voicemail

Those seem to be the only things missing from my Mogul. From looking at the Sprint Spec sheet ( http://www.engadget.com/photos/htcs-...good-1/767800/ ) it seems as though the Sprint TV and Music store are "to be determined". I seriously hope it will have it.

Not to mention the GPS category seems to have a check for "aGPS" which is total bull****. If this phone is released without GPS, Visual voicemail and Sprint TV and Music for $599.99 or more than I'm folding and buying an Instinct.

The Touch Pro, and the Diamond have the same GPS the Mogul does. The chipset is a beefed up version of the one we are using now (MSM7500[A])

aGPS is a standalone GPS with optional network assistance for faster lock times.

So can I unwad my panties and rest assure that it will have GPS, SprintTV and Music? I don't even really care about the music...I can always load those myself. I just want NFL Network and other stations for when I'm bored and GPS is just too cool. I wish it would display your current MPH like stand alone systems like Garmin or TomTom.

Have we heard anything about visual voicemail? I mean ****, if the Instinct can do it why the Touch Pro?

Re: GPS, Sprint TV, Visual Voicemail

Doesn't the 7500A use eGPS (much faster and power-efficient) like the 7201A in the GSM version does?

aGPS is better than GPS, not sure why people don't understand that. aGPS is NOT cell tower triangulation or anything like that, it is assisted GPS, a real gps + assistance. read the wikipedia article on aGPS if you still have your doubts.... and what do you mean GPS is missing from your mogul? mogul has had working gps for a long time now... sprint TV is working again as well....

If you're really considering an instinct than you aren't a real ppc user ;) It has no apps available besides maybe that BREW bs (mostly games) and java (opera mini).

Re: GPS, Sprint TV, Visual Voicemail

Why are people talking about the Mogul? This is the Raphael/Touch Pro forum. The OP is wanting information on whether those features will be on the Raphael, not whether or not the Mogul can use them...
I'd be in total disbelief if somehow the Raphael didn't have GPS enabled from the start. That would be a shame.
I'd be surprised if it didn't come with Sprint TV and Music since both the Mogul and Vogue now have them.
I can't give you guarantees, but those would indeed be steps back that shouldn't be necessary.
As for visual voicemail... Well, the system is obviously there... but its not really a part of WM6.1. Yes they could do it, I'm sure, but I'm not sure they want to (lazy). If it is a part of the Raphael, that would be a huge bonus IMO. I don't think that the 800w comes with visual voicemail, and that is the newest WM6.1 phone (came out on Monday, well after the Instinct).

Re: GPS, Sprint TV, Visual Voicemail

couldnt it be possible for one of the developers on ppc geeks or xda to come up with an app that does the visual voicemail?

aughsum 07-21-2008 03:24 PM

Re: GPS, Sprint TV, Visual Voicemail

I'd imagine so.. the instinct has VV so we know that sprint can handle it.. now its just a matter of doing sprints job for them, as the xda community generally does.

Re: GPS, Sprint TV, Visual Voicemail

Sprint's Visual Voicemail tech is licensed from a company called Klausner. I don't really know if that will affect getting a visual voicemail app or not.
Also, you can get Visual Voicemail already (it was out before even the iPhone) - buts its $5/mo. Check out SimulSays. For even more money, they will actually send you text messages of your voicemails.

no thanks.. something inside of me tells me to say no when it comes to paying for things that should be free.

well.. i dont have the instinct, besides, did anyone actually get it and the simply everything plan along with it? i figured most would buy it outright and swap online to use with sero or another cheaper plan.

A-GPS is better than OLDER GPS models. The receiver sensitivity of some of the newer GPS models are better than than cells using "A-GPS". The benefit of GPS is never needing assistance from "cell towers". To keep cell phones cheap, designers use the cheaper GPS chipsets available. Cheaper mean receiver sensitivity sucks. To boost aquisition of position they use "assistance" from cell towers as a crutch. Without cell towers, A-GPS is worse or no better than older GPS units :silent:

agps does not imply lower sensitivity, but sure the chipsets in phones are usually less sensitive than a purchased seperate gps unit, but can you really expect different? it's a phone first and just has a gps built in. the fact that it is assisted has nothing to do with its sensitivity tho....

you can get sprinttv by clicking the following link on your device.

http://ppckitchen.org/misc/SprintTV-Titan.cab

the new mogul rom comes with sprinttv, but if you don't have that rom you can get it from the above link.

Does A-GPS imply relatively higher Rx sensitivity? You say, the fact that it is assisted has nothing to do with it's Rx sensitivity... I can almost agree with you there! BUT you can surely attribute lower Rx sensitivity to lower cost. Not sure how to answer your question. You're still sh1t out of luck some place where there's no cell reception and you have A-GPS. My rebuttal to your original point was to refute the fact that you said A-GPS is better than GPS.

It's Assisted GPS. You can still get a lock on GPS satellites when you don't have cell coverage, it's just a slower time-to-lock. Many have reported difficulty in getting a lock when travelling internationally, but that is more of an issue with stored satellite information not clearing and weak standalone reception. I know of at least one forumite who has reported using his Titan in the far north (think icebergs and snow drifts) without a cell tower for miles and miles.

Yes. Part of my original point was you'll get slower lock times when out of range of cell towers ](*,)

You can use GPS with your phones radio completely off, so if you have aGPS it will work without a cell signal.

100% positive about this. I am connected to my wifi, with the cell off sitting in my apartment. I have 3 satellites connected according to google maps.

You know, what the hell is this thread even about. This is the Raphael forum. The Mogul already has GPS, Sprint TV, and Sprint Music. I think it would be foolish to think the Raphael wouldn't
1. It uses the same chipset.
2. Sprint TV and Sprint Muisc are cash cows for Sprint.

Yes, we know what it's all about.

I just flashed the HTC Touch Pro and lost my Sprint TV and Nav as well. How can I get them back?
