PPCGeeks - TP Text Message Notification

I am on my third Sprint TP. First one I got replaced because of the infamous keyboard not working problem. The one I just had replaced was because it would just randomly shut off and power back on only when it felt like it. I am having an issue with my replacement phone that it is counting my text messages that I send as new messages and doesn't count the received messages as read while I am in the conversation. I can have a whole conversation with someone and when I go back to "All Messages", it will tell me that have 10-20+ new messages and the only way I have found to clear it is to either delete the whole message thread or to keep going into the conversation and back to the all messages until it clears them one at a time. My other two phones never did this. I can't seem to find any way to turn this off. I am not very "tech-ish" my phone is completely stock. Is there an easy way to disable this, or am I stuck with it?
