Best way to do gmail?

What method do you guys prefer to do Gmail on your Touch Pro? Right through Exchange? m.gmail.com in Opera? Skyfire? Mobile mode in those browsers or standard mode? How about installing Java? None of the options I've tried so far is fantastic....just wondering what the consensus is for the best overall. Thank you.

just add it in your mail folder.

when you click to add an account, the options are exchange, gmail, and other.

doing it through exchange will sync your calander and contacts too. if you just add it in as an acct, it will not sync anything but mail.

is this what your looking for? somehow seems too simple.

I set up my wife's gmail through her Touch Pro's native mail tab... That way it checks for new mail every 2 hours. I set up her yahoo that way too.

Ditto. It works great for my purposes. I only want my email since I use Outlook on my PC for contacts, tasks and appointments. I did set mine to check every 1\2 hour instead of the default 2 hours. Some people want fast responses. They confuse email with text messages.

Wirelessly posted (Touch Pro: Opera/9.80 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/5.0.3521/18.738; U; en) Presto/2.4.15)

I prefer mine to be set up through Exchange. Seems to save battery(trick of the mind?)

Here is the best way, you will get email as it arrives as well as save battery, connect to your gmail account via active sync and setup gmail on it and click email only and on schedule, click as items arrive, you will get email, as it comes, like the blackberry and save battery!!!

Now what if I only want mail from a certain Gmail folder forwarded to TP as it arrives, instead of all of my mail?

Believe you can set that up in gmail directly?

yes, goto folders and you can set what folders get updated automatically.

Re: Best way to do gmail?

I would just use the email preferences on your gmail account and set up a rule that states... when email is received from xxx@xxx.com forward to 123456789@messaging.sprintpcs.com Just change 123456789 to your actual phone number.

Yes, that's what I'm doing. I'm talking more about being able to archive mail, apply labels. Maybe I need to learn to go without doing that until I'm back to my desktop pc. :)

Re: Best way to do gmail?

I have a handy shortcut to open it with PIE. Yeap, the old PIE. BTW, there's no faster browser when it comes to load from ground (Opera, Skyfire, Opera 9.5, etc.) all of them may take seconds to boot up the first time and PIE loads INSTANTLY no matter what. Then the excellent Gmail mobile interface does the rest. If for any reason I consider I need a more robust handle of the mail in question then I load something bigger (like EAS).

Regards.

Exchange is the best solution and yes, it does save battery. You will get your email as it arrives. Awesome.

Before you could just forward mails to your phone as SMS and get then push-email-like alerts without sacrificing battery life but Google recently screwed that (now you need to click a confirmation link in the destination email but such link/code doesn't fit the SMS so kinda endway there).

I can't even do this for some reason...when I go to add acct. I enter my info and it takes me to the hotmail page in my browser, it doesn't add the acct. in the mail tab. Worked fine before I hard reset, what gives? also hope I'm not thread jacking, if so just ignore...

Cool - I installed the GMAIL 2.06 Java file, and it seems to work pretty well! Thanks! :headbang: I just need to do the registry edit to make the fonts a little bigger now.

My preference for regedit is

large font = 32
medium = 26
small = 22

This gmail 2.0.6 modded was working great for me and was the only way I was doing e-mail on my phone. However, I just flashed a new rom - EnergyRom Oct03 build, and when I click the .jar file to install Gmail, I just get a message "File error (???)" Has anyone run into this? Help! I can't use that terrible exchange stuff where I have to delete mail once on my phone, and then again within Gmail. Plus, the Java app has many more features and gives a 'live' view of my e-mail. I rarely need to use Gmail on my PC any more!

********** SOLVED - ALMOST ************
I found this post, and installed the "Esmertec JBED", whatever that is, and then I was able to install the .jar file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407667

Now I just can't change the font size!
