is there a free app out that simulates the unlock screen for the droid?

Do you mean the pattern lock? That is done with Throttle Lock: http://www.throttlelauncher.com/port.../ThrottleLock/

Im using the Hd Mini Lock Now (; Even though it is not very smooth at all.
