What's next from sprint for us tp users?
I am wondering what the next Windows phone is going to be from Sprint to replace the Touch Pro and was checking to see what you all think.
Obviously Sprint is going to want a Win7 device with 4g. I have O had the TP for almost two years and it is great and still cements all my needs but I am getting itchy for a new toy. |
Re: What's next from sprint for us tp users?
Well, the Touch Pro 2 already replaced the TP. And, there are rumors about a TP3 coming.
But, who the heck knows what the lineup of actual Windows Phone 7 devices will be. For me, I'm heading to the Android EVO 4G once it's out this Summer!! |

I'd like to go with the EVO also, but I can't afford to give up my $30/month SERO plan, which only works with Windows Mobile phones.

Re: What's next from sprint for us tp users?
I am just wondering if the Touch Pro model was so bad that HTC dropped the product after only two years http://www.htc.com I haven't found the Touch Pro listed on Sprint or At&t either. Well this solves the debate that the Touch Pro will never get an official update to Windows 6.5. or any additional updates or releases for that matter.
I am just curious will they eventually drop support for a phone they no longer sell through carriers or individually. The Touch Pro has was once a beloved and coveted and know it is looked at as some cheap Wh*re no body wants to recognize. |

http://www.htc.com/ca/support/touch-pro-sprint/help/ as to OP, I would have to say the next was the TP2... I'm currently using a hero tbh, it is pretty neat and amazing, but gets a bit boring honestly lol. |

Re: What's next from sprint for us tp users?
I bought a Touch Pro the day it came out and my contract isn't up until Oct 2010. I want the HTC EVO 4G which is supposed to come out Summer 2010.
Are people just paying out of pocket to get these new devices? Like I said I bought my TP asap. How are people willing to upgrade to the TP2 and Hero? I can't understand paying so much for meager upgrades...the TP2 has an older CPU than the TP1 lol... |

Re: What's next from sprint for us tp users?
I don't know if you guys on Sprint tried the current Android devices- Hero and Moment. Android 1.5 currently is so boring. For many of us custom ROM users (Me=Energy 3/30 build) Android 1.5 is a huge step backwards. I returned both within a week of the 30 day trial.
I say this because I hope the new Sprint EVO has an Android OS that is close to what we custom ROM users expect. Once the new car smell goes away and you can't tweak you may be back to WM (which Microsoft is expecting). The Android App store and all the hype hooked me on the Hero and Moment but not enough to keep me. Question- Banner Ad of the Sprint Evo mentions TWO camera's. Why? |

Re: What's next from sprint for us tp users?
Ok, thanks. It also HDMI output which is cool. Again the features are sweet but if the OS boring like Android 1.5 is then I'll be back to WinMo 6.5.5 custom ROM in a flash. I am so tired of all the hype of these device only being disappointed by the lack of tweaking.
1. BlackBerry OS- Great for pushmail and texting then boring. BB Marketplace is expensive and weak. 2. iPhone- I bought into the hype then switch back quickly. The iPhone cost me 44% higher a month and I just couldn't type without a physical keyboard. Gotta give me more than App's. 3. Android 1.5- Again bought into the hype. It's so boring I returned both device after 5 days. If there was no Android App store I would have left in 2 days. 4. WebOS- Are you kidding me? Palm, the Pre and Pixi is the best you got? I guess the World agreed, Palm is dead. Give me a ton of options by the great minds of members on this forum and XDA any day. It's never dull. Will the Spint EVO have people waiting in line at stores like the iPhone and G1 did? Sprint has always been bad about hyping phones. AT&T had commercials 4 months before the iPhone release as did T-Mobile with the G1. We will see. |
Re: What's next from sprint for us tp users?
Sprint and HTC said the Evo would ship with 2.1 and the Sense UI. And once the phone is rooted you will be able to flash custom builds just like you can now with the TP.
What I hope is that we will be able to disable the Sense UI on the Evo, since it usually forces the phone to lag behind the bleeding edge android builds. |

considering how many people I see with the samsung moment, I think there will be indeed a rush for it, it might not be a dare I say 3GS rush, but a rush nevertheless. Another thing to consider is the HTC incredible, which from what I have read and been told, it like the verizon version of the Sprint HTC evo, for those who have the want and need of winmo with a monster screen and a snapdragon, plus who can forget 3G lol, the HD2 unfortunately, at this current point and time can meet those needs. |
Re: What's next from sprint for us tp users?
I'm in the same boat. I'm not willing to give up my 2 lines for $60 and trying to decide between using my upgrade to go from TP to TP2 or wait for some WinMo 7 device down the line.
|
Re: What's next from sprint for us tp users?
I am going to wait for the win7 device too . I love the touch pro and it is doing all that need for now

It was bad enough having to give up all the handy buttons when going from my Mogul to the TP (especially with AE Button Plus making common tasks so quick & easy). I also like the TP's compact size and being able to use a stylus to make precise screen selections and avoid having to smudge my screen with finger oil. Even the 1st-gen WM7 devices may not be good enough to make me reconsider. If my TP dies, however, and Sprint/Asurion won't replace it with another, I'll settle for the best available at the time. |
Re: What's next from sprint for us tp users?
I've had my TP since dec '08 and plan to get the EVO when it comes out. There was no way i was going to spend close to $500 for a TP2 with no real upgrade made.

Re: What's next from sprint for us tp users?
so $250 for a "TP2 with no real upgrade made" is good for you?
$500 was retail, not ebay. i agree. this is why i never made the jump to the tp2. couldn't justify the pricing in my mind for a phone thats almost the same. |

Long Words: $250 for a tp2(which oddly enough I sold my old touch pro for $250) Which the phones are indeed very similar, but the tp2 has a way better battery life(from my experience at least) And a much larger screen(due to the fact that I suffer from FFS(fat finger syndrome) And the fact that I rely on my phone as much as I do my toughbook (for business and college), $250 is more then worth it for me. And biggest factor is that I don't have to take apart my phone every week to fix the cable for my keyboard(yet) And don't get me wrong, the touch pro is a great phone, but I've just had much better luck with my touch pro 2 so far. Also, don't think I'm bias toward touch pro's because I have a newer phone, I still like the touch pro alot, I just have more features with the touch pro 2. |
Re: What's next from sprint for us tp users?
I was a bit torn. I had upgrade fever and looked at the Hero, the Moment and the HD2. I liked the Hero but it didn't have a physical KB. I like the Moment but it didn't have Sense, and I liked the TP2 but it was 199.00 after Rebate.
As it turned out, I couldn'd get the android phones without changing my plan (Powerpack with 3 phones and unlimited data addon - for a total of 73.00/month) to a plan that was going to cost me 30.00 more a month. Then the salesman sweetened the deal by knocking another 50.00 off the TP2 which brought it down to 149.00 AR. Sold my TP so my net "cost for a new TP is only about 15.00! So, do i like the TP? Yes I do. I've read what others have said about the android and am glad I didn't upgrade, mainly beacuse I've invested $ in a lot of apps for my WinMo phone and they won't work onthe droid. Right, it is "hohum" at the moment but development will probably start to ramp up soon and you'll be able to get things like Sense on the moment. (if you can't already?) Hopefully my TP2 will carry me through the next 2 years of grad school and I can reward myself with an android based phone or a new WinPhone phone. Who knows...phones change so much on almost a monthly basis. David |
Re: What's next from sprint for us tp users?
see i couldn't justify it in my mind. i love my tp. love it so much that i don't hate it. works great for me. a custom rom and i get a full day out of my battery. i have had almost no real issues with it, kb always works, so for a bigger screen i couldn't find it to be worth it. if sprint so happened to trade me out at no cost i would jump for it but to pay? i couldn't do it.
