Data Connection Help
I recently purchased a brand new Touch Pro for my wife. I have one as well. For some reason on the new phone after it has been on for a bit the Data Connection shows connected. I have had my Touch Pro for over a year & have never had this problem. From what I can tell I do not have anything set to automatically update. Email, Weather, QuickGPS is set to manually update. She is not using a Messenger Program. The 2 phones are set up identically but hers seems to be automatically connecting somehow. I am running the phone completely stock. Any ideas of what may be causing this problem? Is there a program that is using the data connection automatically that I may have missed?
any help is appreciated. |
Re: Data Connection Help
I use the long press end key to terminate the data connection.
Im not sure what you mean by it showing data connection connected. |
Re: Data Connection Help
Right. I use the long press end key too. What I mean is a active data connection on the top toolbar. Once the connection has been terminated after a little bit of time the top toolbar shows an active data connection again. Which leads me to believe there is something automatically updating or using the data connection. Once again, I have my email, quickqps & weather set to manually update. So I know its not that. I was wondering what else it could be. This does not happen on my other Touch Pro unless I establish the connection (ie. email, weather, browser, etc.). Once again, any info/thoughts/suggestions are appreciated.

Re: Data Connection Help
It would have to be an app that you installled that is needing the internet to run. What all apps have you installed?

Re: Data Connection Help
the phone is completely stock.

Re: Data Connection Help
could it have something to do w/ Pocket Express? That seems to be the only program that she may have tried that I haven't. I can't seem to find a setting that confirms whether or not it automatically updates though....

Re: Data Connection Help
Well i can say i had to reset my touch pro back to factory and i took a look at the pocket express and afterwards the data connection was still the same. So i dont think pocket express would be the issue, although i may be wrong.

Re: Data Connection Help
check under the comm manager to turn data off. it will still work when u need it, just wont stay connected.

Re: Data Connection Help
No help in this thread yet lol. Dude going to have to comb through all the apps on the phone and select the settings. Or wait til it connects to the internet open up advanced task manager see what is running and go from there. Might be an active sync, mail, or some other bs app have to check what is on and what is running.

Re: Data Connection Help
mods can delete this thread. I ended up just hard resetting the phone & its been fine ever since. I think it was some sort of glitch as nothing was showing up in the task manager & nothing was set to automatically update. anyways, thanks to all who responded & tried to help.

Re: Data Connection Help
The simplest way to disable data connections is just to delete the settings.
(Start>Settings>Connections>Connections>Manage Existing Connections) Then there is no way it can connect at all. I always do this when I don't want it to connect as it's the only way I've found to get any WinMo phone to stay disconnected... |
Re: Data Connection Help
Like I stated in my previous post. A hard reset has fixed the problem I was having. If i delete the settings as you suggest would I still be able to connect manually? Because if not, that is not the type of solution I was looking for. I don't mind a data connection as long as it's something I activate. Once it has been manually disconnected, I want it to stay that way until I manually use it again.

Re: Data Connection Help
Nah, deleting the settings would disable all data connections, which was fine for me but obviously would not fix your problem;)
