Screen broke, but phone still works. Any way to fix?

My touch pro broke yesterday, and I'm out of warranty (freaking 2 weeks out of warranty... ugh!). I also don't have the phone insurance. Dropped it from a few feet onto a wood floor, and now the screen doesn't work. I can see the backlight is on, but nothing is displayed. The phone actually works... I can receive calls but can't make them because I can't see what is on screen. Maybe this is just a minor problem such as the connector cable from the screen to the board of the phone got jarred loose... not sure. At any rate, has anyone seen this problem before and fixed it? Again, my phone is out of warranty so at this point I've got nothing to lose by cracking it open.

Thanks

I kinda have the same problems since i dropped my phone and it cracked, but recently it would go black with the backlight on but nothing showing. It goes in and out of this. Right now screen in on :).

Always get insurance!!!!!!!!!

I scratched my screen really bad about three months ago. I was able to buy a replacement screen off E-Bay for $30. It was a pain to install since many of the steps of dis-assembly are not obvious. But, it was definitely worth it.

I would consider taking it to a sprint repair center. As far as making calls, have you tried using voice command (assuming it is installed). Also, if you you can use mymobiler to look at screen if you need to do stuff on it to back it up. I wouldn't recommend flashing or hard reseting it because almost all of the time you will need to calibrate the digitizer on startup, which is nearly impossible to do without a screen.

if you have insurance let sprint fix for you. otherwise your best bet is to replace the screen or the phone. screens and digitalizers can be found on ebay though not always cheap. sometimes it is easier to pick up a good tp in used condition than try to replace the screen and digitalizer.

Mine did this on thanksgiving day, and that was 4 days after warrenty. They canceled my insurance because i had 2 claims within a 12 month period and didn"t know. I ended up adding a line to get the Imagio, and then I am canceling one line next month. But i sent it in to PDC or what ever its called, the place for out of warranty repairs, and they wont touch it because i had a cooked rom on it. They are sending it back. So is there nothing i can do to fix this myself? I tried putting the original rom on it before i sent it in, but of course you cant see the screen to do that.

lucky there isn't much to going back to a stock rom. as long as the phone can connect to the computer you can pretty much guess the rest.

plug it in, use the computer to put the phone in bootloader and run the ruu. once it's finished, your back on a stock rom. don't worry about configuring it. won't matter for a repair.

Is there any program i can use to see the screen on the computer? Or because of the screen not working, only the back light, am i sol?
And also....if i go back to stock rom, i wonder if they will fix it because it was already there and they know it was a cooked rom....lol. Guess that would be a question for that company huh. and what is my chances of getting the stock rom back on it that that will fix it?

for the most part you are sol. i have heard of programs that will let you remote into your ppc and do things but i would guess you would need to be able to see the screen for the inital setup before you can remote in.

Just tested by sending a text with the mouse on my computer screen, and it worked perfectly.

One thumb up until i test some more, but seems to be decent!

You need to establish an activesync connection to the phone, then run the program. It found the phone and asked to install the software on it. I agreed, and it works. Can browse anything like the phone is in your hand. mouse pointer is your finger, and has buttons for the hard keys.

Didn't need to at all with the program I just downloaded. It was free so I gave it a shot. I mean, my phone works, but I tested by installing it screen down so i couldn't see what was going on.

And btw, it is working on the imagio very well..i have it face down with the screen off, and i still can control the phone without the screen coming on. This is a step in the right direction, Thank you wiskydiver1.

I stumbled on it while doing searches related to pay software of the same kind. Wasn't sure if it would work, but was pleasantly surprised!

Ill let you know what happens with the touch pro when i get it back. Im kinda excited now that i just might be able to see it go into boot mode, and put the stock rom back on it.

I have a feeling that you won't see it go into boot mode. The bootloader breaks the activesync, but by that time you shouldn't need to see it. Run the Stock RUU, watching the PC screen. It'll hit 100% (I hope) and reset the phone. Disconnect the usb and walk away. You can try hooking it up again later, but I don't know if activesync will connect to a phone that hasn't gone through initial setup yet. At least at that point you'll know the stock Rom is back on it, and you can try the procedures here to manually put it in bootloader and then run the relocker. Of course, you may be able to see the phone before initial setup. If so, that would be sweet!

Re: Screen broke, but phone still works. Any way to fix?

You are probably right. But i was hoping that this program would acknowledge the phone and show it on the computer. But that probably wont be the case. i thought if i could get the oraginal rom back on there, then i could see it on the computer and be able to run the set up on it. As i recall you have to hit skip, skip, next and what ever to load the stock rom. I couldnt do that before cause i couldnt see it. Guess i will just have to wait patiently to get it back in the mail, then see what i can do with it. Thanks.

As long as you can establish an activesync connection, you "should" be able to see the screen. I may be flashing again later tonight, I'll do it with the pc interface and see how far I can get.

You're gonna love this.

Hooked the phone up to usb, and let activesync connect.

OpenedEveryWAN

Ran the Shipped exe.

Activesync broke the connection, as was expected. Watched to updater go to 100, and reset the phone.

Left the usb cable plugged in, and watched the phone so I could see what was going on and let you know.

Got the usual long wait, first run, blah blah blah. Then I heard the activesync link!

When Activesync showed connected and asked to set up the partnership stuff, I hit cancel, as I always do when flash dancing. No need to do a full sync when I'm just going to flash right away again.

Well, after the cancel, it shows connected, so I went back to EveryWAN and hit connect. It got the stuff about finding a phone without the software, and I agreed to let it install. It did, and up popped the screen that says tap the screen to set up your phone.

I clicked on the pc's phone screen, and it registered, and switched to the little crosshair screen!

No, that screen I could NOT do from the pc, but this is the ONLY time you will have to touch the phone. Use the stylus and get as close as you can to where you are supposed to tap. Center, Upper left, lower left, lower right, upper right. It may take a couple tries to get it right, but once you do, full control is back to EveryWAN!

So, YES, if your screen is dead, and you CAN get activesync to connect to the phone, you CAN use this to flash back to shipped, and of course I assume then run the relocker and you're good to go!

The relocker is the only part I didn't try. I'm dancing tonight.

Glad to have helped, you, and maybe lots of others too!

pssst, see that little "Thanks" button? Right over there--->?
That's all I ask. ;)

This is great news. Thank you for testing it. At least i can get to where it says "tap screen to set up phone". That was the hard part cause you couldnt tell when it said to do that. Im sure i can handle the little crosses though. Like you said, may take a couple times, but that has happened when i COULD see the screen. lol. Hopefully ill get my phone today. Thanks again for all your help. (and i did hit the thank you button) just wish it could have been more than once.!

Hey no problem. I'm liking that program more and more. It can remotely install my cabs for me, and i'm starting to play with it's built in registry editor. Seems like this will be a really handy tool to have around!
