Can't do a hard reset
I just received the TP I purchased thru eBay. The seller said it is new and unused but I can't seem to do a hard reset .
When I press the vol down button(on the side) and the enter key (from keyboard) then the power button, I get a screen that says "SECURITY UNLOCKED" on top of the screen with the screen divided into 4 colors - red, green, blue and white. In the red portion, it reads: RAPH800 SPL-0.40.0000 MicroP-Herman (LED) v0C85 In the green portion it reads: MicroP-Herman (KEY) v0685 PSOC-Paph STAGE_EVT v20 I even tried using the center button (navigation Control) instead of the keyboard enter key as the enter key but the TP just starts up. Am I doing something wrong or the seller messed around with the TP? If the seller did messed with it and unlocked it, how do I get it to hard reset? Thanks in advance for any help. |
Re: Can't do a hard reset
Have you tried using the Clear Storage option in Settings | System? That will accomplisgh the same thing, and at least then once it's reset you can retest the hard keys to see if you can hard reset that way then.

I've am able to reset the device using the Clear Storage option suggested by Covkidd66 (thanks). The reason I am so concerned is that I purchased the TP thru eBay and I hope it is not defective. I never had this problem hard resetting my Mogul or Touch. I think I'll bring it over to a 3rd party Sprint store and see what that say. |

I am having the same problem but when the phone boots up normally it never fully boots up. I am running the energy rom by CMYLXGO. Is my phone a brick?

If that is the case, then it make sense that I can't do a hard reset that way. Please explain. Thanks |
Re: Can't do a hard reset
is the phone powered off when you are doing this? If not the phone needs to off before doing this.

Only way I can hard reset is using the Clear Storage program. The buttons don't work for me. DRJONZ has the same issue as me. If I read BOGGSIE reply correctly, it might be because of the stock rom. Please correct me if I am wrong someone. |

With the power off (completely off, not in hibernate mode) you should be able to press (Vol-Down+D-Pad+Power) and get a prompt to wipe your personal information. Best regards, -boggsie |
Re: Can't do a hard reset
On my touch pro it requires 3 hands and a foot to hard reset :P You hold down volume down, the center dpad, the power button and the soft reset button with the stylus until it gives you the prompt. I think you're forgetting the soft reset button on your attempts.
The same selections without the center d-pad gets you into bootloader mode for flashing. |

I have a SPRINT stock rom (ver 2.01.651.6) and I power off (holding the power button till it says that 'power will be turned off, and you may lose data ......" ) and then tap yes. After it powers off, sometimes I wait mins or hours then I try to use the 3 buttons to hard reset. But to no avail. The TP just powers back on with the Touch Pro word then sprint splash logo, then MW 6.1, then launching TF3D then Today page. I can only reset using the CLEAR STORAGE program. Do you or anyone have any idea why I can't hard rest using the buttons? I don't seem to be the only one that can't hard reset with the 3 buttons (see several post above from DRJONZ) |
Re: Can't do a hard reset
My phone never hard resets with the center button... I have to use the soft reset, vol down, and power but I couldn't do that until I flashed back to the stock rom and update from HTC. When I use the enter button my phone powers up normally.

I got it to hard reset using your method; the 3 buttons and the soft reset but it took me about 20 tries. And it took me about another 30 tries to do it again. This is totally stupid, first, the instruction doesn't mention anything about hitting the soft reset button, secondly, you have to be like an octupus or use both of your hands and your "JOHNSON" to hit all 3 buttons and the soft reset with the stylus, thirdly, your octupus arms/JOHNSON have to be coordinated as the 3 buttons and soft reset has to be pushed at the same time or it just powers back on or go into a tri color screen which I think is the bootloader mode. The easier way to hard reset is to use the CLEAR STORAGE program. I hope my TP never freezes and I have to do a hard reset using the buttons. But now I know my TP is not broken. Thanks again Doc.......... |
Re: Can't do a hard reset
Well, the button sequence isn't too specific, but you must have both the center button (d-pad) and volume down pressed first and then while holding them, also press and hold the power button. At this point, while pressing and holding all three, wait for two or three seconds and the BL will appear.

The way you mentioned is the way the manual says to do it and it does not work for my TP. The only way I got it to work is to press the 3 buttons and ALSO PUSH THE SOFT RESET BUTTON like TheDoctor1971 said. And even with that method, it takes me about 20-30 tries before the hard reset screen comes on. |
