HTC Discontinued Support for Sprint Touch Pro?
Well it looks like support has returned to the HTC website, however sprint does not seem to be selling the touch pro anymore.
I would give up on this thread but our poll seems to be switching leaders daily and I think I would like to know the opinion of at least a hundred. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just checked the HTC website after reading that there may be a possible stock wm 6.5 updated rom release and could not find anything for the sprint touch pro. Check for yourself: http://www.htc.com/us/support Under select a device tab, nothing. Also if you look in their product category and choose only sprint devices, they have the diamond but no touch pro.... sad day, anyone have any idea? Re: HTC Discontinued Support for Sprint Touch Pro?
It's also not on the sprint website anymore.

Re: HTC Discontinued Support for Sprint Touch Pro?
Yes. We're talking about this in a thread right here in this very subforum.

Re: HTC Discontinued Support for Sprint Touch Pro?
The good Lord gave us PPCGeeks, we don't need HTC anymore! :)
Moved to the HTC Touch Pro forum. |
Re: HTC Discontinued Support for Sprint Touch Pro?
If they discontinue the touch pro, then they will have to give an upgrade to the touch pro 2 if you have the warranty and your touch pro breaks.
I am on my third and I got the touch pro the day it came out, so it wont be long before this one craps out too. |
Re: HTC Discontinued Support for Sprint Touch Pro?
Just read about the discontinued support and wanted to let you know about a call I placed to HTC back on November 22, 2009! My phone has been acting up ever since I installed the MR update! Wrote an email to HTC and they responded with a ticket number and gave me a number to call and speak to a technician 1-866-449-8358! I explained to him what was going on and so he wanted me to try and reinstall the MR update, saying that it probably didn't install everything the first time I did it! I was concerned about reinstalling it and something happening to my phone and bricking it! He said that if I had an issue with the phone after trying to download it to call a HTC warranty & repair center and they would look into the matter! Its obvious to me now that there is an issue with the MR update and so they pulled it from the site! We might be getting an update to 6.5 soon!

Re: HTC Discontinued Support for Sprint Touch Pro?
I do not understand how they could possibly be making any money off of this phone, I do not know anyone who is not on their second or third phone. No wonder they would drop it, I mean come on, their have been so many problems with it, people here on ppcgeeks have been working on it since it came out a year ago and their is still no rom without some kind of glitche.

Re: HTC Discontinued Support for Sprint Touch Pro?
HTC seriously needs their head examined. They sell a premium product and they don't even keep the download page for the TP update up for more than 3 months? Seriously...
They act too much like a dollar store for me to be happy with this company more often than not. Even with the Touch Pro being "discontinued" there isn't a reason to pull it off the website offering details on its specs along with information for the people who still own the deivce. Not everyone in the world buys the latest phone "just because." Hell I can go to Dell's website and pull up the manual to my old Dell Inspiron 7000 from 1998 if I wanted to! HTC seriously needs to start treating us like they respect the fact we pay top dollar for these devices! |
Re: HTC Discontinued Support for Sprint Touch Pro?
I am still on my orig TP (got it the day it came out along with 2 others (1 for my dad and 1 for my brother)) still running stock ROMs and no real problems with any of them. *knocks on wood* but if anything were to happen and they are dropping support for it, hope they upgrade to TP2.

Either way, I wish I were you guys on your second or third TP. I'm on like my fifth. They were able to get my k/b working again last time I took it in or I'd been on my sixth. They hinted to me that I could exchange it, but the TP2 wasn't in stores yet, just online.. So that wasn't an option unless I wanted a crackberry. So I said I'd wait and I'd be back in two months. We'll, it's time. And trying to decide between the TP2 or I think it's the Hero. (anyone got comparison notes they'd like to share?) |
Re: HTC Discontinued Support for Sprint Touch Pro?
I guess I am very lucky. I am a heavy user and have used the original TP since it came out. Because of all of your tips on this site I have it working great with tweaks to the standard ROM.
Just wanted to say thanks. Not sure when I will move on to a TP2 |
Re: HTC Discontinued Support for Sprint Touch Pro?
I too am one of the lucky ones still on my original TouchPro. Granted, I do have some of the cosmetic issues that others have had (the chipping chrome, the raised home buttons) but those don't effect the functionality. I do have issues w/ it overheating while charging it and doing anything else (phone calls, tethering, etc) but I don't do that very often anymore so it's become somewhat of a non-issue for me right now (might get on my nerves again when I start travelling again, tho... lol). Just like inmnbob, I've tweaked the heck out of this thing so that it meets my needs. I had to do that with the Mogul as well, and have a feeling I'd do the same to a TP2 or any other phone I would get, so I answered that I'd stick with the TP

Re: HTC Discontinued Support for Sprint Touch Pro?
I just happened to wander over to the HTC website and noticed that there is a lot of redesigning. I clicked on the support tab and noticed that most of the "older" devices are not listed anymore, such as the ATT Tilt, Sprint Mogul & Touch, in fact I couldn't even find ATT FUZE and Sprint Touch Pro. Has HTC officially dropped support for these devices?
Many of the wireless carrier websites for these phones have links to the HTC website for stock rom and other "official" updates but I continue to receive HTTP 404 error. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? |

Re: HTC Discontinued Support for Sprint Touch Pro?
...or you can go back to dinosaur age flip phone that are still wild in the market..no need to worry about updates and fixes to OS
|
Re: HTC Discontinued Support for Sprint Touch Pro?
Original TP, love it, never keep a ROM more than 2 weeks... Bought a craiglist one for $130 for wife in beginning of September.
Never an issue with keyboard. My Mogul only lasted 4 months, USB issue with plug in. Sure hope it breaks sometime (joke), as I'm on the "plan"... insurance that is.. I've gotta search & see what everyones saying about the tp2 vs Hero vs HD2 |
Re: HTC Discontinued Support for Sprint Touch Pro?
Does anyone know how to add a second poll, I think there should be a poll on how many touch pros you have had or had to have repaired.
Like I said, I am on my third but that is not including a keyboard I had to have replace. This third one is the best one I have had, that is not saying much since I have missed or dropped calls almost every day! I agree with what is being said about tweaking the phone to make it work better, but this phone was so terrible you have to massively tweak it and hard reset it every two weeks just to make it work! There is a big difference between tweaking it to make it work better, and having to tweak it to make it work! |

Re: HTC Discontinued Support for Sprint Touch Pro?
I thought sprint was exchanging the TP to the TP2 in stores, have they stopped this already?
I found the TP support page on the HTC website. http://www.htc.com/www/supportdownlo...act=sd&cat=all It doesn't say rom version but has the date for it listed as "Date : 2009-08-30" My refurb phone says Rom Version 2.01.651.6 but has the date listed as 7/27/09. I'm confused. I also can't tether with this rom. I make the reg changes or use the cab that does it for you, and the phone changes it back to phone as modem. Edit: that's a generic rom. What is the newest radio version? I'm having worse coverage than I did with my 6900 Vogue Edit 2: I clicked on check for software updates or something similar in my sprint account and it took me to a support page here: http://support.sprint.com/support/de..._PRO-PPC6850SP |
