Streaming PC Library to TP2

Has anyone been able to stream their PC content (music or videos) from a Windows 7 PC to their Touch Pro 2?

It seems like something like this would be easy to setup w/ Windows 7 out of the box...especially given we're running Windows Mobile...

...but I've tried using the built in streaming capabilities of Windows Media Player, enabling streaming, linking a Windows Live ID, etc - and I can't get it to work.

I don't see one. I can only link it to an online ID. I think you have to somehow discover it through Windows Live.

That's a shame. Oh well. Maybe they'll get it right with Windows Mobile 7 or whatever the next big version is. :disgust:

There's got to be something out there. I had an HP Ipaq RX-3715 that did this... Not very well but it did it. I used the wifi on it to connect to all my multimedia on my pc and I could listen to my entire music library through my ipaq's headphone jack. I'm sure there's some software out there.

I've had absolutely no problems streaming from orb. You can even set up playlists on your pc, select the playlist from orb and listen to whatever you like. There's also the option to use total commander to access your network share (ie drive with mp3's on it that has been shared). Using this method, you can browse to the folder and select whatever song you want to hear.

Another option that works pretty well for streaming music from your PC to your TP2, is Didiom. It will even play your itunes songs, if you're into that. It responds very quickly, as if the music is right there on your phone! I have been an Alpha and Beta tester since first release and it keeps getting better!

DIDIOM Description:
Listen to songs, podcasts, and audiobooks from your iTunes® library, right on your phone.
With Didiom, you can use your BlackBerry® or Windows Mobile® phone to access music, podcasts and audiobooks stored on your computer, through wireless streaming. Just download Didiom Desktop and Didiom Mobile, choose the folders where you store your audio files and playlists on Didiom Desktop, and make sure your PC and phone are connected to the Internet. You’ll be surprised how quickly your library shows up on your phone. Then, when you add new audio files to your computer, Didiom Desktop automatically scans them and makes them available for wireless streaming on your phone.

Discover new music anywhere, and download to your phone and PC.
With over 2 million tracks, the Didiom MP3 Store lets you shop for music and audiobooks whenever you want, directly from your phone. You can name your own price and download to your mobile, PC or both. The mobile download will be available to your phone, and the PC download will be available online. There are never any membership or service fees. You only pay for the music and audiobooks you download through our secure, credit card service.

I also have a 16 GB card. Thought that would be plenty. However, I could also use a 32GB now. Seems like the more storage I have, the more crap I find to fill it with.

This is pretty handy though, because you then don't have to have any of your music on SD card. Unless you wanna have some on there for when you have zero reception.

You only pay for songs that you buy from them. I have bought none. There is no subscription. You don't have to buy a thing to listen to your music.

This is from the FAQ on the site:
How much does Didiom cost?
Nothing. You only pay for the music and audiobooks you download. The software is free and so is your account.

I've always liked Subsonic and it looks like there are ways to make it work with WM: http://www.activeobjects.no/subsonic...pic.php?t=1916

There's also possibly a WM app in the works there.

No, you don't have to use itunes. Any music software on your PC will work fine!

Re: Streaming PC Library to TP2 - SOLVED

Here is the info you need and some potential solutions:

What you are talking about is UPNP (Universal Plug and Play) control and streaming. If you search for that and Windows Mobile, you will find several options.

I have attached two options that I just found by using Google and tested.

Both work, but LobsterTunes found my Windows7 PC easily and started streaming in seconds. Exiting the applications did not stop the streaming music and I had to physically end the task.

Rudeo's interface was far more confusing and took some time for me to find my computer. I did not like this app, but it has way more features and may meet your needs.

They are posted as supplied by the sites I downloaded them from, so they may be try buy software.

One last note, I tested on my TP (not TP2) using energy's latest ROM.

Click the Thanks button if you found this helpful.

Correction: Rudeo seems to be a hobbled version and LobsterTunes seems to be fully functional.

Those look like ancient apps, are they finger friendly?

Did you check out Diodiom? The interface is really sick. I cant however find a WVGA version or get it find music on my computer (even turned off my firewall).

The TP version looks fine when run, but I also can't get it to find my music. The website really has nothing useful to offer as far as help either..

You need to have streaming enable, no homegroup and open access on the local network. Can you currently stream to anything else in your house?

Don't know anything about ORB. I just understand how streaming and UPNP work at a technical level.

Tried using htc network and mapping a network drive from your pc with songs? This gives the ppc access to all your files and it plays it like it was on your ppc.

Did you install the PC install for Didiom. You have to install the the mobile version on your phone and the desktop version on your PC. It can't find them without both. Works great for me, as I have no interest in actually purchasing music from it. Just the streaming part of it. It looks nice, and works great!

Yes, I have installed the desktop version and have it setup to look for my music in the the right place. I have installed the mobile app as well but its only vga resolutions, did you find a WVGA? I went through all there models and could not find one. Ya and still it says cant find when I try to stream.

Have you tried Kinoma FreePlay (kinoma.com/get)? I'd be very surprised if it doesn't "just work" for you, and with a UI that's a lot more finger-friendly to boot.

I have, love Kinoma play, just trying out something new. I have not yet tried it on my TP2 though, will give it a try and report back.

There's a couple parts to the realtime streaming quality equation:
  • Orb's "upstream speed" setting on your PC. Go to http://mycast.orb.com/, click Settings, then go to General > Streaming Speed. Make sure your Upstream Speed is reasonable for your broadband connection and the quality you're trying to achieve. (I set mine to 1500 kbps.)
  • Your phone's data connection. Kinoma Play (and FreePlay) have a continuous "quality of service" conversation with Orb on your PC while you're playing media. The goal is to provide the highest-quality playback possible under always-changing network conditions, so the quality can change while you're listening.
Hope that's at least somewhat helpful!
